This beautiful studio apartment is quietly set down a small lane and overlooks the most secluded and glorious garden which in turn overlooks the church. Accessed by outside stairs, The Crafts Studio Apartment is a perfect “get away from it all” little apartment just for the two of you to enjoy that special time. Converted in 2021, the property is modern and tastefully decorated, and filled with light. Sit back and relax with the patio doors thrown wide to make the most of the peace and tranquillity of the wonderful garden outside.

Since the late 19th century, Kirkcudbright has been renowned as an artists’ colony, with artists such as Jessie M King, E A Hornel and Charles Oppenheimer making it their home. Today it is known as “The Artists’ Town” of Dumfries and Galloway, and in 2018 the Kirkcudbright Galleries opened, which showcases world class art as well as the work of the local artists. Two of the featured artists are husband and wife, William Miles Johnston and Dorothy Nesbitt, and The Crafts Studio building was their artists’ studio where they created their paintings, pottery and woodcuts. They lived in the adjacent house with their family from the 1940s, and ran a small shop called The Crafts selling their wares to locals and visitors for over 30 years. The shop sign is now hanging on the studio building. This lovely town on the Estuary, still has a busy and bustling harbour where you can watch the fishing boats return with their catch. Stroll through the town and visit the famous Broughton House, once home of E. A. Hornel or experience the Arts and Crafts Trail.

Throughout the year the town hosts a diverse range of annual events from Farmers’ Markets, Country Fair, the Jazz Festival, Festival of Light, the Riding of the Marches and of course the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed. With some lovely little shops dotted around the town and fabulous places to eat the town is an ideal location to base yourself while exploring this delightful area. A must for children and adults alike is a visit to the Dark Sky Planetarium a state of the art interactive science and space themed experience for everyone or you just may prefer the Dark Art Gin Distillery next door!!!! There are also many varied and interesting walks which you can take from the town, from scenic coastal walks to forest trails. With sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone. Warmed by the Gulf Stream there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust for Scotland). Close to the Galloway Forest Park, the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, and central to 5 of the 7 Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
