The village amenities include a shop, a pub and a Post Office, and there is a public slipway for leisure sailors, plus just across the road from this Garlieston cottage is the harbour, which offers glorious, far-reaching views that look towards to the wooded headland of Eggerness and its large sandy bay. The countryside surrounding Garlieston is as varied as it is beautiful, and along with the coast, there are many pretty, rural walking trails to discover. Nearby are the spectacular seaside gardens of Galloway House, boasting a variety of ancient trees, plants and wild flowers; enjoy the views as you stroll through the woodlands to the shore. The more energetic will adore walking in the Galloway Hills or attempting one of the 7stanes mountain biking trails at Kirroughtree. The town of Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway is Scotland's National Book Town with over 20 book shops. The town also offers cafes, pubs and restaurants.
