WE ARE delighted TO introduce this converted former mill TO OUR portfolio FOR 2025:
This beautifully positioned former mill sits within its own extensive, well-maintained south facing gardens providing spacious accommodation for up to 6 people. Sitting in an elevated position a short way into the hills from Thornhill there are superb views and sunsets to enjoy over the Nith Valley and the Southern Uplands, the hills are some of Scotland's most beautiful and are interspersed with quiet lochs and glens. The mill dates from the 1700s and has retained some of its original character while offering cosy comfortable holiday accommodation. The Mill Wheel is still in situ, although no longer working and the original Mill Lade runs through the garden, it is unfenced so care should be taken. The spacious ground floor sitting room with its picture window taking in the surrounding vistas and the games room on the lower ground floor allow ample space for everyone before coming together in the evenings.
Although you may be tempted to stay in all day enjoying the peace and stunning views the surrounding area does not disappoint! Scotland's culture and history is on your doorstep and can be discovered and enjoyed at many local sites, one of which is Drumlanrig Castle with its beautiful gardens and famous art collection. The highest village in Scotland at Wanlockhead with its sister village of Leadhills is nearby and is the home of Scotland’s Lead Mining Museum which pays tribute to the industrial heritage of the area. In contrast, areas of the former industrial landscape have been transformed with modern landscape art by Charles Jencks at the Crawick Multiverse and is well worth a visit to enjoy the peace and stunning forms that have been created. Thornhill is the principal town of the Upper Nithsdale valley and is a bustling hub with a range of independent shops, pubs, and cafes. The location also allows day trips to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Clyde coast at Ayr, all which are within an hour’s drive or so.
The area gives an unrivalled cross section of life from days gone by through the industrial revolution to modern life; however, one thing that has not changed is the tranquil beauty that greets all who venture into Southern Scotland. The Solway coast and Galloway Forest Park are within easy reach, the forest is the largest in the UK. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the many activities available on the doorstep with direct access to many hill routes, one of which is a path and track through to the stunning steep sided Dalveen Pass. Throughout the area there are walks and cycle routes with mountain bike tracks for all abilities, the 7Stanes mountain bike trails at both Ae and Mabie Forests are within a short drive, others are within easy. There are also nearby opportunities to try golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, and horse riding.
