Darvel, in East Ayrshire, Scotland, is a charming town between Kilmarnock and Strathaven. With its lace industry booming in the 1800s, this picturesque town earned the nickname "Lace Town" and gained international recognition in places like India. There is historical evidence that Robert the Bruce and the English fought here, and the town also has ties to Sir William Wallace. Two quaint pubs can be found in town, and there are also convenience stores where you can stock up on food and other necessities to make your self-catered stay more comfortable. There is also a museum dedicated to the telephone. Dean Castle, a charming 14th-century castle encapsulated by 200 acres of rural valley with verdant and leafy trails, shop, tearoom, and museum where you can lose yourself in the past, is just one of the many attractions in the bustling town of Kilmarnock, which is a short scenic drive away. If you're up for a bit of a drive, you can find Irvine on the coast, which is home to a beautiful beach and breath-taking views of the Firth of Clyde and the Scottish Maritime Museum.
