Full of character, Challenger Bothy is a superb choice for a family looking to escape the rush of normality and uncover the beauty of Nothern Scotland. Enter via the rear door into a reception area, leaving your boots and coats behind before getting comfortable. The kitchen/diner features a contemporary finish with sleek appliances and a run of units, with the dining table inviting you to settle down and enjoy mealtimes together. Gather together in the sitting room and keep warm beside the woodburning stove, with a Smart TV for entertainment. Freshen up in the shower room before retreating to either the king-size or twin bedroom. To the outside of this charming dwelling is a garden area with furniture and a wood-fired hot tub for two, so you can enjoy your favourite tipple whilst appreciating the mountain and lake views. Lairg, which is positioned in the middle of the lonely and stunning Northern Highlands, is 50 miles north of Inverness. Visitors may enjoy excellent golf courses, world-class fishing, some of the best hill walking and mountaineering terrain in the nation, as well as the magnificent castle at Dunrobin, which serves as the home of the Earls of Sutherland. The castle, which has a sea view, has a stunning formal garden that was modelled after the splendour of Versailles in France. Along with playing at the renowned Royal Dornoch Golf Club, golfers may also enjoy a round at nearby facilities at Bonar Bridge, Golspie, and Ullapool. The West, North, and East coasts can all be reached easily from Lairg, which also offers breathtaking landscape in every direction. Ben Hope, the most northerly Munro, and the well-known peaks Suilven, Arkle, and Foinavon are all accessible to walkers. Visitors interested in whisky can take advantage of trips to local distilleries including Balblair, Clynelish, and Glenmorangie. Enthusiastic anglers can choose from a variety of picturesque trout lochs in the neighbourhood, which is located at the southern end of the gorgeous Loch Shin. Note: Loch Dola is free to use by guests as long as they have permission from the owner of Challenger Bothy, four days' notice is needed and a property contact number will be provided pre arrival if you need to call to arrange permission - please do also note that fishing is not permitted on a Sunday and there can be no bank fishing, although a boat can be hired from the Lairg Angling club.
Note: Fishing in Loch Craggie is only allowed with a permit, obtained from the Lairg Angling Club.
All wildlife is to be strictly left alone and watched only from afar.

All the little extra details such as the eggs, milk and bacon was a lovely surprise. Exceptional high standard, comfortable , beautiful surroundings couldnât have asked for a better holiday .

There was a lovely welcome pack with freshly baked bread by Morven. As well as the welcome pack for us, there was a goody bag for our dog Louis. The accommodation was spotless and we would like to thank Alan and his team. I went fishing on Loch Dola and I would like to thank David. The beds were very comfortable with lovely fresh crisp bedding. The hot tub was a welcome relief after a long day touring the north of Scotland. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay with quality appliances. The only suggestion I would make is that there is an iron and ironing board provided. I would highly recommend this Bothy for those who wish to tour the north of Scotland.

Itâs a beautiful place and special to my heart. Good directions and easy check in. The homely touches like fresh bread, milk, bacon and eggs were a great addition and Thistle loved her wee dog bag and the walks. The house was well equipped with everything you will need. Beds were fabulous and very comfy as were the towels and the bed linen. The hot tub was wonderful and easy to use. If having a long stay I would advise you bring wood to keep the house fire and hot tub going. Enjoyed our time at Loch Dola itâs a magical place. Advise you bring midgie hat nets. Lairg offers everything you need and The Pier was fantastic for food and hospitality top class. Looking forward to my next stay.
