About this property

Torridon 8.7 miles. Emerging from the lush woodlands of Diabaig, near Torridon, and raised above the ground, Chapel House is a magnificent architect-designed cottage providing a superb location for a couples getaway. Situated in five acres of private, clifftop woodland, park in the nearby car park and discover this secretive getaway. Ascending the rear steps and entering a fantastic sitting room, you can find quality wooden flooring, inviting furniture, and a woodburning stove to warm away the Highland chill. From here, cook a romantic meal for two in the well-equipped kitchen before serving on the dining table with a view to the woodlands, or on the balcony, one which is accessible by French windows on the side and front of the property (not accessible); allowing in plenty of natural light. The space is fantastic for reclining in the evenings. When night falls, make yourself at home in the king-size bedroom with large sliding windows creating a pocket of views as you unwind for the evening. Remote and beautiful, Torridon and the surrounding area are teeming with wildlife, including deer which can be enjoyed at Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve and View Point. Mountainous trails serve up stunning views of the dramatic landscape and elegant bodies of water, a great location for those who love to take a stroll through nature. Torridon itself has a local shop and Deer Museum, however if you wish to swap the countryside for sandy beaches, then Applecross Beach and Coral Beach will make the perfect place for a romantic stroll in the salty air. You can also find the crofting community of Diabeg near one of the most beautiful west Highland passes, Bealach na Gaoithe, home to some of the most breath-taking views of Ben Alligin, Liathach and Upper Loch Torridon, Applecross and Skye. After exploring the Torridon Mountains and many clifftop and lochside walks in the area, stop for a meal in the fantastic Gillie Bridhde restaurant, right on the picture-perfect Diabeg Bay. Lose yourself in the breath-taking wilderness of the Highlands with a stay at Chapel House.

Resting among the rustic landscapes of the northwest Highlands of Scotland is the quaint village of Torridon, home to the dramatic Torridon Hills and Loch Torridon lying on the west coastline. The area itself has gained status as a National Trust for Scotland for its historic mountains, with the Torridonian sandstone dating back 750 million years and the Lewisian Gneiss rock dating even further back a whopping 2,600 million years old. The village centre comprises a local shop, The Torridon Inn hotel and pub, a youth hostel, a community centre and a deer museum. The west coast boasts incredible secluded beaches scattered around the outskirts, including Apple Cross Beach, Coral Beach and Gruinard Beach to name a few. Chapel house has everything you need and more. The road was a little hair raising the first time but we grew to enjoy it and would definitely return. The lemon drizzle cake you left was the icing on the cake - literally! Hopefully will return in the future.

Top situated, cosy and tasteful equipped interiour. All what you needed was there, very complete. Wonderfull surroundings, you could make walks direct from the house, with spectacular views. A lot of birds near the house: among others the goldfinch, great spotted woodpecker and in the evening the sound of the tawny owl. At the other side of the bay we saw a golden eagle! Not to forget to recommend the good restaurant down by the water. Friendly welcome, including a home-made lemon drizzle cake!

Lower Diabaig is absolutely stunning as is Torridon which is a short drive away through the mountain pass. Chapel house has most of the amities you need but I would advise taking extra logs with you during the winter months incase you cannot drive out to buy more. The fridge is a normal under-counter one with a small compartment for a freezer so not a fridge/freezer as we were expecting. Shower is not a walk in but more like a step in. If you are over 6ft you may struggle as my husband did. We didn’t miss having a tv one bit. The view is beautiful but you are located near the owners home & another cabin. There are more houses around then you realise so not totally remote. The small track leading to the cabin is rather untidy which can ruin the appearance of the area. Cleanliness of the cabin could have been much better. I understand cobwebs can appear over night but a few of these cobwebs have been there for weeks. Toothbrush holders could do with replacing or having a very good clean. Also shower grouting could do with a deep clean. Toilet brush needs replacing. Wasn’t expecting to find boxer shorts in the washing machine from the previous occupants, apologies to them but I did bin the boxer shorts. Fridge needs pulling out for a good clean as does the cooker. Cooker inside could also do with a deep clean. The outside steps leading up on to the cabin walk way could do with a handrail. As does the steps leading down from the car parking area. The cabin is set in a tiny woodland which you cannot walk through due to other properties. Apart from the level of cleanliness we did enjoy our stay for Christmas.
