Caustrim Cottage is a little treasure situated in the Conservation Area of Coldstream, a small town on the north bank of the River Tweed with opportunities for fishing and magnificent sunsets. The town, home of the famous Coldstream Guards, is rich in history and offers easy access to stunning countryside.

The property is a beautiful 3-bedroom, 18th-century townhouse that was totally renovated in 2020 providing a high standard of accommodation with comfort as the first priority. The living area and three bedrooms comfortably provide accommodation for 6 people spread over two floors. The layout is excellent for families and friends enjoying each other’s company. The ground floor is open plan with broadband and TV, including BT sport. Secure parking for two cars is available across the road from the property and easy additional parking is nearby in Market Square.

Coldstream offers a good range of independent shops with nearby emergency facilities, making holiday provisions and top-ups easy to access. A good supermarket sits just round the corner and there are excellent additions including a pharmacy, eateries, an art gallery, tea shops and the delights of the nearby Hirsel Country Park with craft workshops for personalized productions and the golf course.

Coldstream itself has an amazing story, once a focus for Borderland conflict between Scotland and England in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Scottish Army lost heavily to the English at the nearby site of Flodden in 1513, and this event is remembered every August during ‘Civic Week’, with an elaborate re-enactment ceremony to remember 1513. The famous Coldstream Guards, the oldest regiment of the British, was formed and housed here. Its museum is round the corner from Caustrim Cottage.

To the south are the beautiful Cheviot Hills, the Northumberland National Park, and the Northumberland Heritage Coast, including the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Bamborough Castle starred as the Brancaster Castle in ‘Downton Abbey’s’ 2015 Christmas special, it also featured as "Hogwarts" in the first two Harry Potter films, and was used for Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. The nearby gardens are among the finest in the country.

15 miles to the east is Berwick-upon-Tweed, the most northern town in England with its unique Elizabethan walls, beach, theatre and water-sport activities. The Swan Leisure Centre has a swimming pool. To the north lies Edinburgh with its rich cultural and historical treasures. The stunning east coastline of Scotland includes jewels like St. Abb’s Head and the fishing port of Eyemouth with its family of resident seals.

On wet days, the delights of Sir Walter Scott’s fairytale Abbotsford House awaits and is only an hour away. Take a look at the Tapestry illustrating Scottish history, housed in Galashiels.

Coldstream sits on the English/Scottish border on the famous River Tweed, making a great base for exploring further afield, encountering the largely undiscovered southern Scotland and northern England all within an hour and an easy return to modern comforts at the end of the day! Beach 15 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
