Pear Cottage in Melrose is praised for its excellent location, with proximity to local attractions and serene views. Guests appreciate the comfortable bed and well-equipped kitchen, though some noted dated facilities. The property's charm and the convenience of a parking space are highlighted, with occasional mentions of a warm welcome through thoughtful gestures like shortbread.
Cleanliness is generally good, with several reviews mentioning the property being very clean. However, there are some concerns about specific areas not being as clean as expected, such as dust on floors and greasy fingerprints, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is highly praised for its central position in Melrose, with easy access to local amenities, restaurants, and attractions like the Abbey and Priorwood Garden. The peaceful setting and views are frequently commended.
Comfort is generally well-regarded, with positive comments about the comfortable bed and the cosy feel of the cottage. Some guests, however, found the seating and sofa to be less comfortable, which affects the score slightly.
Facilities are adequate, with a well-stocked kitchen and essential appliances. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as a problematic dishwasher and lighting concerns, which suggest room for improvement.
While guests have mentioned appreciating gestures like a Christmas tree and shortbread, these are not consistent across all reviews. As such, it cannot be guaranteed that such gifts are a standard offering for all stays, and therefore a score cannot be provided.

I was carrying two small coats up the stone steps when I caught my index finger on my left hand on the railing, a piece of rusty flake of painted metal went under my fingernail and caused me to fall backwards down the steps. I split my head open, broke my collarbone, took a piece of flesh from my right arm and right ankle. I was taken to Melrose hospital by ambulance had a ct scan and spent the next twenty four hours there getting treated for the injuries. I would suggest that you remove the rose bush from the railings, strip the rusty flakes of metal and paint then repaint the railing. Also fit a further rail to the building side of the steps.

Easy access and parking just outside the door are a bonus. All the appliances and utensils you could require for your trip are provided. Just watch out for the shower screen that leaks and the loose toilet seat. Melrose has everything you need for breakfast, lunch, dinner, treats, walks and attractions. The next village over has a rail link with free parking and access straight into Edinburgh, well worth the trip.
