The small village of Strathyre, Gaelic for 'broad winding valley', lies at the head of Loch Lubnaig, sheltered by Ben Ledi, Ben Vane and Ben Shian, just seven miles from the historic town of Callander. Strathyre has long been popular with visitors, starting as a resting place for cattle drovers and today offering a café, a local village shop, Post Office and a pub serving food. Beautiful, lush green forests cover the hills on each side of the valley, attracting walkers, cyclists and fell runners annually, with the Strathyre Stuc a Chroin 5000 hill race (a gruelling 5000 ft ascent) competing every May. A short drive will take you to Callander, with its 18-hole golf course rated to be among the top ten courses in Scotland, whilst a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants and the McLaren Leisure Centre are also available. Every July, Callander hosts the World Highland Games, and the town’s Rob Roy Tourist Information Centre and riverside walks through The Meadows are not to be missed! A lovely location for all the family!

The owner tried hard to fix this during our stay, which more or less resolved the issue. It did require quite some work so it seemed. It was mentioned at arrival that the water is not drinkable so only to be used for showering. Fresh drinking water is supplied in bottles, so be aware of this. On the Sykes site it is mentioned there is a dishwasher, oven, (cosy) dining area and sleeping sofa. None of these are there. If you expect to eat at a table, you won't find that there (no table, no chairs to fit at a table). We did mention the missing dishwasher to sykes, they now have taken that from the site. Also, most doors jam, there is some leaking at the door to the bedroom. The surrounding area is messy, lots of debris like old doors, gas tanks, metal scrap, etc. and not much of the large area can be used due to high grass, fenced off, steep slope. Parking should be done carefully, as it is very easy to sink away in the loose gravel. All in all, it is very quiet, beautiful views on mountains (and deer!) and in general a cosy accommodation. But when staying there for an extended period, you notice things are not working well. Advice is to take your own sharp knife if you plan to cook there, since there is no way of cutting meat or anything. Same for hanging clothes to dry, there are no (wooden) pegs so we bought our own.

The place is very clean and comfortable with all the things you need for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. The area is absolutely beautiful and so quiet. there are loads of walks and cycle ways to enjoy and also some outstanding places to eat and drink within easy reach, either that or just sit on the decking with a drink and watch the world go by in perfect peace! We cannot recommend this place enough. the owners are so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. it was perfect and we cant wait to visit again.

Lack of information, faulty cooker, night without kitchen electricity, night without water for washing, car sank in parking area, faulty lock and sticking doors necessitating departure through window with a short jump to ground level. All resolved speedily and in a friendly manner. I mentioned to the owner I thought we should be entitled to compensation and contacted Sykes accordingly on our return. After a few weeks we have not been offered any token recompense. A shame as this has coloured our rating enormously.
