Being only a walk away from the centre gives guests at The Cottage @47 a rare advantage on Lewis, you can have a meal and a drink and simply walk back to your accommodation. And being on the outskirts of Stornoway also means you are within easy reach of the west coast and other world famous sights across the island. There is a beach only a few miles away at Coll, and its golden sands are simply stunning. The cottage is is just 15 minutes from the west coast which gives you many memorable places to see, including the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, the Butt of Lewis lighthouse and the awe-inspiring Callanish Standing Stones.
A little further south along the west coast is Uig with its hills and collection of white sandy beaches, and it’s where the Lewis Chessmen were found. There are more white sandy beaches further south on the Isle of Harris. And because Harris and Lewis are in fact connected you can easily visit the well-known Luskentyre too, which overlooks Taransay where ’Castaway 2000’ was filmed. The east coast of Harris and Lewis is very different to the west. Rocky inlets and several far reaching sea lochs provide safer harbour for communities of fishermen and crofters. Stornoway is on the sheltered east coast and so is Tarbert on Harris. A little further south is little Tarbert with its places to eat and drink, as well as a distillery. The Cottage @47 is the perfect base for a perfect holiday in the Outer Hebrides. Beach 3½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
