In spite of the rapidly cooling weather, we found the blockhouse warm and cosy at night especially with the underfloor heating and the wood burner stove. The welcome cakes were excellent. The attention to detail of the furnishings was superb and we had fun finding many quirky details such as the Harris Tweed roof light curtains mounted on vintage golf clubs. We came to Lewis through our love of landscape photography and the unique restored blockhouse was an excellent and very quiet base. There was an excellent supply of books and OS maps of Lewis and Harris which as a result I was able to find and photograph Callanais sites 2, 3, 4 and 10! Yes, there's more than one stone circle... in fact there are 19!! Would we recommend to friends?... we already have.
