Garden Cottage in Rhoscolyn is praised for its peaceful, rural setting and comfortable furnishings. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, the property's cleanliness, and the proximity to nature and local beaches. While some minor maintenance issues and suggestions for improvements are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-maintained, though there were a few mentions of flies and a need for a deeper clean in some areas. The presence of dead insects and cobwebs was noted, but these instances seem isolated rather than indicative of a general trend.
The location is highly praised for its privacy, stunning grounds, and proximity to beaches and pubs. It's considered an ideal spot for nature lovers and those seeking a quiet retreat. The presence of an air training base overhead was a concern for one guest, but this does not appear to be a widespread issue.
Guests report the cottage as comfortable, with cosy furnishings and a warm atmosphere. The beds are generally well-received, though there are suggestions for replacing the mattress on the top bunk. The presence of a wooden bench and the lack of garden furniture were noted as comfort detractors by one guest.
The cottage is appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen and good Wi-Fi, but there are several comments about the need for maintenance, such as shower adjustments and the provision of basic supplies like dishwasher tablets. The lack of a BBQ area and garden furniture was also mentioned.
While guests mention a warm reception and quick responses to issues, there is no consistent reference to gifts or special touches that would indicate a level of thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse rspb Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!

A red squirrel visited the garden early most mornings which was lovely to see. Kitchen has everything you need. House was nice and clean on our arrival. Only things i would mention are the outdoor picnic table needs a good clean or replacing as we would normally breakfast outside as we had an amazing week weatherwise but it is covered in green from the surrounding trees and the downstairs bathroom could do with refresh but overall great value and we would definitely book the cottage again. Best sleep in a long time. Faulty window in double bedroom hinging mechanism broken note attached ( do not open ) Kitchen well fitted out with dishwasher and washing machine very large fridge freezer. Sitting room extremely comfortable and large TV. The only thing that let it down was the bathroom located on the ground floor and required some updating. Broken toilet roll holder, rusty radiator and trim to bottom edge of shower screen was missing and had to adjust water temperature by use of bath taps, extremely hot water so risk off scalding. Decoration poor to bathroom walls, timber panels to doors generally were opening up through shrinkage. Food left in freezer, fridge and cupboard by previous guests. Cottage lacked general information on waste collection days had to Google also no instructions on what waste went in what bins, there were 3 plastic boxes on a trolley and a large wheelie bin. Instructions on bins indistinct. No laundry sack so had to pile bedding and towels on floor by washer. The linings of the curtains in the bedroom were disintegrating and left bits on the carpet when closed. I would not expect to find the issues noted in a holiday cottage at the price charged but having said all that we were very comfortable slept well and it was in a lovely rural position with sheep grazing in the field next to the garden. Guests with young children should note that the garden area is not secure and there is a lake diagonally across the lane which is not fenced. If the issues were addressed then I wouldnât hesitate to stay there again.

Quiet location and really comfortable. Great location to get into surroundings areas and Holyhead/country park some super local beaches (Traeth Borth Wen and Porth Dafarch were our favourites). Had all of the amenities that youâd need for your stay. We arrived to some delicious bara brith. There wasnât any tea and coffee which would have been nice (weâve left some for the next guests). There was also no salt in the shaker and weâd not except to have to buy things like that. I agree that it could do with a lick of paint/touching up in a few places on the decoration side, bits itâs mainly cosmetic. A previous reviewer commented on the shower head, it was good for us so I think it has recently been replaced. We would recommend and certainly we will be back. Check out time of 9am (given we couldnât check in until 5pm) we feel is a little early, especially with a 11 month old.
