About this property

This fabulously romantic hideaway cottage for two is set in the rolling Carmarthenshire countryside with Carreg Cennen Castle, one of the most iconic castles in all of Wales, looming above.

This converted barn has a Swedish lodge feel and offers a delightful base for a couple seeking peace and seclusion, with lovely walking right from the front door. The nearby castle is simply stunning and as you approach it’s hard not to be awed by its presence.

By day you can watch the red kites and buzzards flying overhead and by night the deep dark skies are perfect for stargazing.

It’s an easy drive to the Black Mountains in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and there are plenty of footpaths and beautiful scenery to take in.

Llandeilo is just 10 minutes' drive away and has an interesting selection of unusual shops and great eateries. You can also explore Aberglasney Gardens or The National Botanic Garden of Wales.

Don’t forget to bring your walking boots and camera.

Llandeilo in picturesque Carmarthenshire, sits proudly on a hill above the River Tywi, the longest river that flows entirely through Wales. This pretty market town has a lovely selection of unusual gift shops, eating places and pubs, whilst visits to the medieval Dinefwr and Carreg Cennen Castles add to the charm. A short drive away is the scenic Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), and the upland landscapes of the Carmarthenshire Fans and Black Mountains are a walker's delight. The beautiful sandy beaches and cliff walks of the Gower Peninsula, plus the ever popular Pembrokeshire coastline are not too far away. This is the ideal location for family holidays at any time of year.

A new ground floor patio area is no longer edged by a balustrade surround (as shown in photos). The patio now opens onto a garden area that leads into the views beyond. Much nicer! Also, inside a fabric sofa and chair has replaced the leather sofa. Equipment wise, in the kitchen an air frier and slow cooker were also provided. A decent sized bedroom with good storage in solid furniture. The view from the bedroom was good and the sheltered roof over the large balcony allowed outdoor sheltered views even in the rain (the balustrade here, remains). Decent shower and separate good sized bath in large bathroom. (Bath tap might need a little tightening as it was a little loose). Motion sensor night lights on the stairs and on route to the bathroom were useful and sensibly placed. Top tip, take easy on/off slippers or flip flops if you’re sensitive to heated/cool floors and don’t (like us) take logs – the wood burner is electric, but gives a good heat (if required) and atmospheric glow. And although the listing suggests facilities are a distance away, closer is the walkable café/tearoom/gift-shop at the base of the castle. It served daytime food, snacks and drinks.

Beautiful scenery with lots of 'nature walks' and within easy distance by car to other towns and lots of attractions to suit everyone. The owners are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and produce their own delicious honey, chutney and free-range eggs (from their lovely chickens). It's also a haven for wildlife - we spotted many birds including Red Kites frequently flying around the amazing Castle, which is in walking distance, and even deer which roam freely. We would highly recommend staying here at any time of the year.

It is nestled in a lovely valley where all you can hear is running water from the stream and the birds. It has beautiful views from the lounge and bedroom with outside space. The accomodation inside is warm, cosy and comfortable. There is nothing they haven't thought of, and it is well set out and tastefully decorated and well equipped with everything you need. It is perfect for couples and very romantic with the backdrop of the Castle, and the stunning surroundings. The owners Tanya and Carl have provided a perfect retreat. We will be booking again.
