Milkwood Cottage in Fishguard offers a cosy and peaceful stay with a lovely garden, convenient location near the harbour, and friendly locals. It serves as a great base for exploring Pembrokeshire and is well-equipped for a comfortable holiday, though some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance.
Several reviews mention cleanliness issues, including cobwebs, dirt, and a musty smell. However, there are also mentions of the cottage being extremely clean, indicating inconsistency in cleaning standards.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to the harbour, local pubs, and shops, despite the steep hill to the main town. It's also noted as a good base for day trips and walks.
Guests found the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Some guests, however, mentioned issues with heating and bed positioning.
The cottage is described as well-equipped with a good kitchen, garden, and seating areas. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues, such as tricky heating, wobbly toilet, and the need for redecoration.
Guests appreciated the welcome pack and the well-equipped nature of the cottage. It's important to note that while such gestures are appreciated, they are not guaranteed for every stay.
This pretty pink washed cottage is in the old fishing village and harbour of Lower Town, Fishguard.
The cottage is just a short walk from the quayside and slipway, where children often gather with their buckets and crab-lines. There are fishing trips for those who wish to catch their supper or you can listen to the Fishermen’s tales of "the one that got away" in the Ship Inn whilst enjoying a refreshment.
A walk up the steep hill leads into Fishguard town which has a selection of pubs, eateries, shops and galleries. A little further afield are Newport, St Davids, Porthgain, and Strumble Head each with its own charm.
The cottage is perfect for walkers (the coastal bus passes through Lower Town) and it’s close to the stunningly spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the Gwaun Valley.
If you are bringing your dog, at low tide the harbour has plenty of space for them to enjoy as does the coast path and the local Marine Walk which starts at Lower Town and leads round the headland to Goodwick.
Fishguard is an ideal holiday destination on the award-winning Pembrokeshire Coast, which has been voted the second best coastal destination in the world according to the National Geographic magazine. The town itself has an array of gift shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs and offers the opportunity of viewing the superb Last Invasion Tapestry, which has been compared to the Bayeux Tapestry. Day trips to Ireland run daily and the picturesque Lower Fishguard Harbour is a delight for sailing enthusiasts. From this perfect holiday base you can enjoy the amazing coastline, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, the beautiful Preseli Hills, where the Stonehenge Blue Stones originated, or explore the array of historic castles, working mills and visit the smallest city in Wales with its magnificent St. Davids Cathedral. Whatever you are looking for, this is a fantastic location for all ages.
