Delfryn in Newport is a well-furnished cottage praised for its excellent location, comfortable interiors, and thoughtful touches like a welcome pack. Guests enjoy the property's proximity to local amenities and the peaceful setting. The garden offers lovely views, and the cottage is equipped with modern conveniences, making it ideal for a relaxing holiday.
Most guests found the cottage to be well maintained, though a few noted areas where cleaning could be improved, such as dust and cobwebs in some rooms. These seem to be isolated incidents rather than a consistent issue.
The cottage is consistently praised for its superb location in the heart of the village, close to shops and restaurants, with easy access to the beach and coastal walks. The quiet, convenient setting is a highlight for many guests.
Guests find the cottage very comfortable, with spacious bedrooms and a cosy lounge. Some elderly guests mentioned the stair gates as a minor inconvenience, and there were suggestions for additional seating in the garden and softer pillows.
The property is well-equipped with a new kitchen and decor, though some guests suggested improvements such as better recycling facilities, outdoor seating, and heating in the bathroom. The lack of basic cleaning supplies was also noted.
While guests appreciated the welcome pack provided, there is not enough information to assess the consistency of such gestures or other thoughtful touches across all reviews. Therefore, a score cannot be given, and guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.
Nestled on the outskirts of the charming coastal town of Newport in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is Delfryn. This attractive, stone-fronted cottage was originally a Woollen Mill, built circa 1880 and was converted into a domestic dwelling in 1920 and is located near Newport Castle. It benefits form a welcoming interior adorned with original, character features including, Victorian feature fireplaces; exposed, stone feature walls and original doors and windows. Cross the threshold into your new home-from-home where you can unwind in the sitting room, warm your feet by the gentle crackle of the woodburning stove and flick on the Smart TV while the designated chef of the group steps into the fully-equipped kitchen to prepare dinner. Dine as a family in the dining room before heading outside and up the stone steps to your own garden with a view, where you can indulge in evening drinks while admiring the vista towards Newport Sands and the sea. When the sun disappears behind the horizon, head back inside to the first floor where you can wash off the day in the shower room before retiring to either the double, twin or single bedrooms. When morning calls, venture on a brief 2 minute walk into the heart of Newport where you can enjoy brunch at Blas at Fronlas or Tides Kitchen and Wine Bar before whiling away the day upon the golden sands of Newport Beach or take a leisurely walk in the sea air and along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, with its breath-taking views across the north Pembrokeshire coastline. Or for the more adventurous, just turn right out of Delfryn's front door and walk straight up Mill Lane onto the Preseli Hills and Caringli Mountain, which sits tantalisingly above your holiday base. Take a short drive out of the town where the history buffs of the group will enjoy a visit to the reconstructed Castell Henllys Iron Age Village and the picture postcard 5,500 year old Neolithic Burial Chamber at Pentre Ifan. Head further north to the market town of Cardigan where you can visit Cardigan Castle - the birthplace of the Welsh Eisteddfod in 1176. Alternatively, the wildlife lovers can enjoy all that nature has to offer at the Welsh Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran with views across the wetlands and take to the open water on a boat for a chance to spot the dolphins that reside in Cardigan Bay. At the end of your day, head back to Newport where a delicious meal awaits in the Golden Lion or Castle Inn. The sofas in the living room and the beds were some of the most comfortable we've had. The galley kitchen was extremely well equipped and had everything we needed. We came with two medium sized dogs and we had plenty of room. Its location is perfect being on the outskirts close to the castle but on 5 minute walk to the centre. The road up to the house is quite narrow so if you have a larger SUV we would suggest approaching the cottage the long way round to make it easier. A very small thing was there was nothing on the front door that let you pull the door closed easily (very minor indeed but was the ONLY thing we thought) Would definitely stay here again. Loved it.

Elevated, enclosed garden/paddock was ideal for the dog and nice walks straight out of the door were a bonus. Town and beach an easy walk as was access to the coastal path long distance walk. Kitchen was well appointed and living room and bedrooms were more than adequate for our needs. The bathroom was quite small with just a shower and could perhaps have been located in the third bedroom to give more space and perhaps a bath. What might be termed consumables were very much in short supply with only two toilet rolls, a third bottle of washing up liquid and four dishwasher tablets for a 7 night stay. Although just three of us, further supplies had to be bought. Given the history of the property it might be a nice touch to obtain some relevant prints or photographs to display on the walls. It may also be worth noting in description that access for larger vehicles may be difficult. Overall we had a great week and would certainly recommend.
