About this property

Gartavon is a (semi-detached) stone cottage situated down a quiet lane in the heart of Newport, Pembrokeshire. Just a short walk from a range of shops and eateries, whilst being less than a mile from the sea, this 200-year-old cottage is an ideal escape for a family of five and their canine companions or for couples seeking a leisurely break on the outstanding Pembrokeshire coastline. After a day down at Newport Sands, look forward to relaxing back in the cosy lounge, curling up on the sofa and keeping warm by the woodburning stove. When hunger picks up, cross into the country-style kitchen equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, double electric oven and a dining table that can extend to seat up to six. Move upstairs to find the bedrooms; the master offers a double, whilst there is also a twin and a single. In the summer, enjoy your lunch up in the rear lawned garden, sitting at the picnic table and appreciating the countryside views over the rooftops. When you're ready to explore, the waterfront at Parrog is a short walk and provides opportunities for canoeing, paddle boarding, crabbing from the pontoon or bird watching on the estuary. Within a moment’s walk lies the heart of Newport, home to a choice of popular pubs, restaurants, takeaways and splendid independent shops. When the sun is out, head to Newport Sands Beach for a day of sunbathing and sandcastle building, followed by a leisurely walk along the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast Path. For golfers, there is an 18 hole golf course overlooking Newport Bay. A short drive will take you to the market town of Cardigan where you can visit Cardigan Castle - the birthplace of the Welsh Eisteddfod in 1176. Then take advantage of the Welsh Wildlife Centre near neighbouring Cilgerran. On your way back to Newport, take in the peaceful majesty that is the 5500 year old Neolithic Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber and take a hike up Caringli set in the sweeping Preseli Hills, for great views of Cardigan Bay. Enjoy a truly tranquil getaway in this charming region of Wales, all from the comfort of your home away from home, Gartavon.

Newport is a beautiful coastal town in Pembrokeshire, south west Wales lying on the River Nevern with a selection of shops, pubs, tea rooms, plus an excellent golf course overlooking the sea as well as a lovely sheltered harbour. Newport lies on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which is renowned worldwide for its unique landscape and wonderful opportunities to go dolphin and seal spotting. Wonderful coastal walks along the path or in the nearby Preseli Hills with the ever changing scenery are a walkers dream all year round. Learn about history when you visit the mills, craft centres and castles dotted around the county or spend a day at the wonderful Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort where you can learn hands on all about living during that time. Car parking is a little tricky though and would be impossible for anyone with a large car.

  • Andrew

The property was well equipped, homely and ideally located with the village, the beach and the surrounding countryside all within walking distance. The communication with the local agents was excellent and we felt well supported. We could definitely consider returning for a longer stay.
