Plenty of space awaits your family and friends at Castle Farm. The beautiful Brecon Beacons self-catering property comprises The Farmhouse has 5+1 bedrooms sleeping 10-16 people and the Granary, which is an external double bedroom. The holiday home sits in its own valley close to Capel-y-ffin, a tiny hamlet 7 miles from Hay-on-Wye and 14 miles from Abergavenny. It has fantastic views and excellent opportunities for walking, mountain biking, cycling, horse riding, and other fun activities. Guests love the flexibility of accommodation which is suitable for everything from a family reunion to a relaxed Christmas with friends and wellness retreats.
Castle Farm is in what is arguably one of the finest locations in the entire Brecon Beacons. The self-catering holiday cottage sits amongst 40 acres of private farmland in Capel-y-ffin with no passing traffic to disturb your peace and no light pollution to dim the brilliance of the night sky. This is a place for relaxing - somewhere you can put aside all the boring and stressful minutiae of your day-to-day life and enjoy great food and sensational views with people you love spending time with. The farmhouse sleeps ten people in five bedrooms and is perfect for families or groups of friends. Adding a barn extension, a traditional cottage, and a comfortable bunkhouse increases accommodation to 30 people. The group accommodation is ideal if you host a reunion, celebration, company team-building event, or wellness retreat.
Capel-y-ffin is a tiny hamlet in the Black Mountains. It is remote yet far from inaccessible, being barely three hours from London and only seven miles from Hay-on-Wye, where you'll find a small supermarket and an excellent array of independent shops. More options are in Abergavenny, 14 miles south, with a choice of supermarkets, a fantastic family-run butcher, and a busy thrice-weekly market. Castle Farm sits beside the River Honddu, and guests have direct access to the water for swimming and skimming stones. The name "Capel-y-ffin" means chapel on the border, referring to the Church of St Mary, which dates back to 1762 and seats 20 people. If you're searching for a peaceful place to contemplate and reflect, this humble chapel is it. The simplicity pales compared to nearby Llantony Priory, sacked by Owain Glyndwr in the 1400s before suffering the fate of many of the nation's medieval monasteries and abbeys in Henry viii's Reformation. It's a gorgeous destination for a walk. Pack a picnic or enjoy a pie and a pint in the pub that occupies part of the original 12th Century building.
The Brecon Beacons are a fanatic mix of mountains, meadows, rivers and castles linking rural villages and thriving towns. The weather can be inclement - this is Wales - but it only adds to the landscape's incredible depth of colour. Whether wandering through the valley to Twmpa, along the Gospel Pass to Lord Hereford's Knob or tackling a challenging stretch of Offa's Dyke and Hay Bluff, the divine beauty of the views will leave you lost for words. Mountain biking and horse riding are popular year-round, with a wealth of trails, bridleways, and local guides to help you explore. You can go canoeing, gorge walking, and fishing if you don't mind a little water. Golf, clay shooting, and road cycling are other ways to experience the scenery while having fun.
