Holiday Cottages In Welshpool

Welshpool is found in Powys, Wales and is close to the border with England. It has a lot to offer holidaymakers and is a beautiful place to enjoy a cottage holiday at a slower pace of life. Perfect for a relaxing break.

Welshpool may be a small town, but there is plenty to enjoy here. A short walk from the centre of town you'll find the impressive Powis Castle. This impressive building surrounded by castles is a wondrous place to visit. If the castle gardens leave you wanting more, take a short drive to the fantastic 25 acre Glansevern's garden. For a more natural outdoor experience, explore the Glyndwrs Way National Trail. There's lots to do in Welshpool.

    What a find!

We've just returned from a weeks stay at this beautiful cottage. The hosts, Ian and Jane are very friendly and helpful. They are very busy people but will always take time to answer any questions we had. The setting is fantastic with wonderful views of the Welsh countryside. There are animals on site, some rare breed Jacobs Sheep a couple of pigs and some chickens and ducks. The wildlife in the area, especially the bird life, is plentiful and is great to sit back and watch their antics on the bird table. The River Cain runs through the site and I was lucky enough to catch my first ever Grayling along with 2 trout and lots of minnows. The cottage is spotless and has everything you might need, or want, for your stay. There is a small shop onsite selling their own bacon, sausages and eggs. Some other basics are available. As well as the cottage there is also a Tepee and a Yurt, a Cabin and 2 pitches for tents. Across the road there are a number of tent pitches for wild camping. 3 pubs in the nearest village, a Spar and a Morrisons petrol station/supermarket. There is also a café, a chippy and an Indian. Easy travelling to various points of interest in the area. Will we be back? Absolutely. Cannot recommend The Old Beams at Pont-Y-Forwyn highly enough. Thank you Ian and Jane for a very relaxing stay.

I was upset to find there was no phone signal at Cranberry Cottage, this needs flagging up on the website, not something to find out on arrival.

Combined with the owner not being around I felt vulnerable with a medical condition that could need urgent contact by phone. A named person and house to go to would have alleviated my anxiety: there were not " plenty of people around" and no one contacted me. Welcome was generally poor with minimal provision- a few tea bags, sugar, jar of stale , solid coffee but no milk and no oil. Great to have a pepper grinder and to find some vinegar though. Cooking for myself, I needed to run the dishwasher every day, but only 4 tablets were provided. Otherwise the cottage was great, super location for walks of all lengths from the door and an excellent collection of walks leaflets and books for exploration near and far. I loved watching red kite and swallows from the comfy sofa. The shower room with its heated towel rail was very comforting on the day I got drenched and chilled. Good storage in the bedroom with a firm bed, which I like, but a hard mattress that I don't. The living space is bright and open and didn't overheat on the hot days. A lovely place to be.

Absolutely amazing. I am tempted to give Camlad Barn a poor review, only in the hope others don’t book and it is more available for my wife and I to return but that would be unfair and selfish. The setting of the property is outstanding with amazing views. It was immaculately clean and is equipped with everything that you would need. A large outdoor area to relax in with a lovely enclosed garden, pretty sitting area, separate allocated parking and hot tub which again, was immaculate and cleaned daily. The inside of the property is both spacious and very stylishly decorated and furnished. All the staff we came in contact with were incredibly friendly and gave excellent advise of local places to visit of which are many. If you want a fast paced, stressed, busy holiday with lots of people, vehicles and buildings this is not for you. If you want the absolute opposite, it is perfect. I can not recommend Camlad Barn enough and we cannot wait to go back. Oh, our 14 year old collie absolutely loved it as well.

The cottage itself is very lovely.

Is well equipped for everything you'd need for your week away. There's a welcome chalkboard with all the relevant information you'd need, however unlike 99% of Sykes Cottages there isn't a welcome pack ( ie tea, coffee or milk ) It's an incredibly easy place to keep clean if you take your four legged friend with and walks a plenty just up the road. However visitors should be aware you can't let your dog off a lead when in the 'garden' part of the property. So if you were to visit in the warmer months and wanted to sit out this is something to have in mind. Think it might be an easy fix on the owners behalf by putting gates at the entrances. We unfortunately didn't get a chance to meet Kate on our visit but she was more than helpful on the phone before we arrived and had we had any problems I wouldn't have hesitated in giving her a call and asking her help. Would recommend.

We had a lovely week at Cranberry Cottage.

It is really clean, comfortable and so peaceful. The weather was still quite chilly for springtime but the cottage was always really warm even without using the log burner. It is situated in a lovely area and we did lots of great walks including Stiperstones, Caer Caradoc and Carding Mill Valley which are all very close to Shelve. We had our dog with us and there is a grass area across the courtyard where he could be off lead but dogs need to be kept on lead whilst in the other areas. We would recommend bringing a good torch if you have a dog as it is very dark at night. We found the sofa's and bed to be very comfortable and the window looks out over the fantastic countryside with great views. We would recommend Cranberry Cottage and would definitely stay there again if visiting Shropshire.
