About this property

Welcome to this charming riverside stone cottage in the Southern Area of the Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), offering a cosy retreat for families, friends and their beloved pets. Set just 1 mile above the village of Bontddu, this traditional Welsh Longhouse provides an ideal base for exploring the stunning surroundings and comes complete with a comforting wood burner in the cosy lounge. Positioned halfway between the coastal town of Barmouth and the historic market town of Dolgellau, you'll find yourself perfectly situated to enjoy the best of both coast and countryside. Each town has a wide selection of shops and restaurants to enhance your stay.

Inside, discover wonderful original features such as the inglenook fireplace, exposed beams, wooden floorboards and feature stone walls. The kitchen has windows looking out over two very different sides of the garden, perfect for preparing meals with a view. Then enjoy your creations together at the dining table in the adjacent lounge. After a day of adventures, unwind on the rustic chairs and watch TV or enjoy the warmth of the wood burner. Two steps down from the kitchen, you'll find the utility room, cloakroom and stylish shower room. Up the steep, narrow stairs, the library landing offers a peaceful retreat with more seating to enjoy different views of the beautiful surroundings. Choose from two lovely bedrooms, each with exposed beams (some lower headroom) and the original uneven wooden floors, which complement your stay in this old farm property full of character. Outside, the cottage is surrounded by a large garden bordered by the upper reaches of the Hirgwm River. Enjoy morning coffee on the sunny bench with views of Cadair Idris or explore the grassed areas on various levels, following the sun throughout the day. The riverside games/sunroom provides additional seating and entertainment options, making it the perfect place to enjoy al fresco dining and soak in the stunning views around the garden as you listen to the river.

From the front door, enjoy scenic walks such as ascending Diffwys mountain via the Cambrian Way or enjoy a circular walk down to the village along the Hirgwm River. For a day at the seaside, take a 6-mile drive to the sandy beach at Barmouth. Alternatively, embark on an adventure to explore Cadair Idris, the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia, or cycle along the Mawddach Trail offering breathtaking views along the disused railway line. For water sports enthusiasts, Bala is 23 miles away, with sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding on Llyn Tegid. Then enhance your evening with excellent stargazing opportunities as Eryri is an international Dark Sky Reserve.

The cottage was very nice ,really cosy and quirky.Just off the beaten track but not isolated.Plenty of walking from the front door, a few hills but this is Wales.Did a lovely bike ride along the estuary from Dolgellau to Fairbourne.Weather was good.Sunbathing on the beach on Nov 7th can’t be bad

An oasis of peace! A wonderful cottage nestled in breathtakingly beautiful scenery. Location for exploring the west coast and deeper into Snowdonia is perfect. One very minor negative, beware of the low beams!!

If you want peace and tranquility, unspoiled rural surroundings (with a stream running through the garden) and a much-loved home with real character, not a bland, IKEA-equipped holiday house, Ty'n Lon Isaf is for you. Over 400 years old, it is undeniably quirky, with low beams (mind your head!), uneven floorboards and antique furniture. But it is warm, comfortable, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Highly recommended.
