Located on the western side of Dartmoor National Park near the moorland of the River Tavy, Tavistock holds many hidden treasures of the ancient past for you to explore on your last minute cottage holiday. Tavistock known for being one of the friendliest communities in Devon, and much of the town's character comes from the warm welcome that Tavistock's residents provide visitors.
Our recommendation when in Tavistock is to get outside and walk. One of the most stunning regions in the whole of the UK, take a stroll with friends or family and get lost in the majesty that is the Devon countryside. With many established paths to take, one could easily spend a whole week just walking around on their last minute break. A cottage holiday in Tavistock offers up many other options however, and fans of cycling, golf and fishing will also find themselves more than adequately catered to. Tavistock's vibrant art community will be of interest to many, as will the regions historical buildings: including the ruins of the 10th century Christian monastery that was demolished upon the instruction of Henry VIII six centuries later. Well worth a look.
