  Staying at The Knowe Upper - the best decision ever!

  ! This is a totally fabulous property - ultra, ultra clean, comfortable, very warm, welcoming, bright, spacious and the very best of facilities and fixtures. It is also easy to ventilate - lovely new windows which open any way you want them to. Perfect, whether during a very cold winter or a warm summer. It really is in an ideal location, right in the centre of Taynuilt village, but tucked away from traffic and very quiet. A very friendly village, there are plenty amenities around - a fantastic tea-room - The Robin 's Nest - a must for visiting - as well as a butcher, PO / shop, hairdresser, craft-shop and a very well-stocked food store, which is open early to late. All are a minute 's walk from the property. The train station is a couple of minutes away - no noise - and buses also stop nearby. You don 't actually see or hear them, but they are there! The Knowe is perfectly situated for trips to Oban, Mull, Lismore and for trips north and south, in the Argyll area. The owners are very welcoming indeed, very friendly and helpful and genuinely want those who stay at The Knowe to have a good holiday and all to be right for them. The beds are super comfy, there is a lot of storage and the bathroom is also spacious and totally pristine. Plenty hot water too. The kitchen is beautiful, super clean, with plenty crockery and utensils and all very good quality. It is also easy to keep clean and everything is just like it 's totally new - it 's like you are using it for the very first time! It is obvious that the owners refurbish regularly and really keep very high standards. I would totally recommend The Knowe Upper as a truly outstanding property, for a holiday in Argyll - I am very sure you would certainly not be at all disappointed. I 'm already looking forward to making a return visit - and it may very well not just be one visit - I should probably say visits!!   The accommodation certainly ticked all our boxes; well maintained; warm; it enjoys a very comfortable sitting area with a well equipped kitchen adjoining.

  The bedrooms, a double and a twin were very comfortable and well presented, again equipped with more than sufficient storage for clothes and other bits and pieces needed for a walking holiday. The bottle of Prosecco, the pint of milk in the fridge and the "Tunnocks Teacakes" beside the kettle were a nice welcoming touch and much appreciated after a long drive up from Cairnryan. The cottage has the essentials to survive within a minutes walk, an excellent butchers; a well stocked general store (licensed) and a post office; all of which are owned and run by very friendly and helpful people, who are prepared to answer any questions you may have and offer recommendations for local eateries (when asked) - these recommendations certainly lived up to their descriptions. As for location the cottage is an excellent base for either travelling further north, or for walking. The owners of the cottage provided a list of local walks, which supplemented our own research on walks in the area, which was very thoughtful as well as being useful. No matter what the weather The Knowe Cottage at Taynuilt is an excellent holiday base location and one which we will return to again in the future

  Lorimer apartment, which is one of a number within this large house set in its own extensive and well maintained grounds, is spacious, comfortable and luxurious. The owners, Elaine and Malcolm, have their own accommodation within the property. They were perfect hosts. They gave us a warm welcome, brief and concise guidance and then left us to ourselves but were readily available if needed. They have converted the property to very high standards. All of the rooms in our apartment were generously sized and tastefully decorated and furnished. Every likely need was catered for and of good quality. The heating system for example was very efficient and the walk in shower a delight. The living room, kitchen area and bedroom all have large attractive windows which look out over the attractive lawns and wooded areas. There are plentiful seating areas outside and even barbecues. One particular boon for us is that they have installed two electric charging points for cars which are easy to access. Needless to say Argyle is beautiful and we experienced little rain during our mid September visit and a couple of hot sunny days.

  Property was a good base to visit surrounding areas from.

  The cottage was of a good size , comfortable and warm, and had every thing you’d require for your stay, from washing up liquid to kitchen roll to every utensil you’d ever need. The garden was huge, with a stream running along the bottom which my dog thoroughly enjoyed a wee paddle in. Plenty parking space if travelling by car. The owners had also left some tea, coffee , milk in the fridge and biscuits which was very much appreciated. Another lovely thought/treat that was left , was doggy treats , which the dog loved, a ball and some poo bags. Communication between owner and myself was excellent, they gave clear directions of how to get there and let me know that the place was now available to use. When there, the owner came to introduce himself, which was nice to be able to put a face to the name. There are local shops right on the doorstep , a grocery shop , butchers shop etc. The railway is within walking distance if wanting to travel without a car. Would recommend this place to stay and would consider a return visit in the future

  I can and would recommend both Sykes cottage but also the wonderful accommodation The Knowe Lower in Taynuilt which we rented.

  Sykes Holiday Cottage site was easy to use. I found the accommodation in the area that we wanted. Booked and paid for it on line. We than received confirmation emails, and details for making contact with the house owner to pick up key. On arrival we were delighted with everything, the location in the village, the house was just as described it was clean, warm and spacious, everything we needed was there, pleased to even find baking bowls etc. We were also so touched at the welcome pack - milk, tea , sugar and the extra touch prosecco and shortbread. Many thanks to Iain the owner, we were using house as a base to stay in for new year, whilst spending time with family in village over new year, but it is an ideal location for people wanting to see the surrounding area. Will definitely use again.
