What our customers say about their holidays
Stephen - Verified booking
The cottage on our arrival was ridiculously hot, there were radiators turned up to the highest setting in every room, which was odd because it wasnât cold outside.
This made the cottage far too hot for about 24 hours and ruined our first nights sleep. The doors to the cottage donât close easily. I couldnât close the front or back door, both required my husband to do it with force. The wood in the doors has warped due to the damp and age of the cottage. There were small brown moths in every room, mainly around the windows, but also on the walls. We had to dispose of 50+ moths throughout our stay, it was horrible. Every morning weâd wake up to more moths in every room. There was also a lot of spiders, but this wasnât as much of a problem as the moths, because they donât fly about your head. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable and made sleeping difficult. But what really spoiled a good nights sleep was that there were no curtains to draw across the windows to keep the rooms dark. The light was streaming through some very old blinds. One of the blinds in the main bedroom had a broken pelmet when we arrived, the bits of which were on the tall drawer unit in the corner. We didnât spend a great deal of time in the cottage because of the issues mentioned above, but if we had wanted to, the one sofa, angled oddly away from the tv wouldnât have made things easy for my family to gather around anyway. We feel really mislead by the photos on the website and the description of the cottage. With the Smeg fridge freezer and the smart kitchen worktop and units, you expect a little bit of comfort and luxury and what you get isnât like that at all. The floors were dirty, so we had to walk around in crocs all the time. Some of the other cottages around ours had very obviously had money and time spent on them to make them far more acquit accommodation. We looked online when we got home and found that for the same cost as your cottage we could have stayed in far nicer places and so we feel really let down. We actually came back a day early on Friday because our daughter was so upset at night, not wanting to sleep in a room full of moths and spiders. Itâs the first family holiday weâve been able to afford in two years and the only holiday weâll have this year so the disappointment is huge. We now need a holiday to recover from the holiday, for all the wrong reasons. Really we feel we should get some compensation, but in this day and age we wonât hold our breath.

Lovely comfortable property, very modern and well equipped.
The location is perfect, with views over the castle and farmland. 3 minute walk and youâre in the pub, perfect! Lovely welcome when we got there with a bottle of wine in the fridge and some snacks which is always a nice touch. Plenty of storage for self caterers, big fridge with freezer, plenty of room to hang clothes, washer/dryer, iron/ ironing board, airer, got everything, fully loaded as some might say! We were very impressed. Now for the negatives which I donât like doing because we had such a lovely visit but I feel other potential visitors might wish to know about. Firstly, there is a parking space but itâs not the easiest of spaces to park in, if you are not confident with parallel parking you may find it a bit tricky, unfortunately the chap who lives at number 18 whoâs parking spot is in front feels inclined only to leave you the minimum amount of room, (very neighbourly of him). Another issue we found was that the gate is the wrong side of the back door. It would have been nice to leave the door open without fear of the dogs escaping. Another issue which was rather unpleasant but no fault of the home owners was when we arrived, like most people we open the windows to let fresh air in to the property unpacked then sat outside for a bit with a glass of wine, when we went back inside, the property was full of flies, to the extent that we had to drive into town just to buy some fly spray. We understand that this is no fault of the owners and the property is adjacent to fields with cattle in them. However to all future holidaymakers I would strongly suggest not opening the windows in the second bedroom! All being said we had a great time and would definitely stay at the property again and recommend it to others. I would like to have given it 4 and a half stars but there is no option.

Because the property was all ground floor level we expected it to be disability friendly as both myself & my husband have mobility issues. We found it difficult to negotiate to the front door as the o initial steps were difficult & no handrail. The main door steps are far too narrow & the step up into the house was far too steep bordering on dangerous. Again no handrail. I spent the week being very anxious that my husband was going to fall. The front door was impossible to lock so we had to leave the house unlocked each time we went out. Surely this should have been picked up by the cleaner. The en suite bathroom was also far too small to negotiate for anyone with mobility issues. It should be stated in the property information that it is not suitable for the elderly or those with a disability. The lounge settee & chairs leave a lot to be desired for older people.

The property was as described and a fabulous view which we didnât tire of.
It was well equipped and the beds and settees very comfortable. Good to have the instructions for the appliances so that could use those properly. The walk in shower was great as my husband has a back problem and climbing into a bath too difficult. It felt as if everything had been carefully planned to make the best use of space and good quality products. We didnât sit in the garden as we were out and about but had we wanted to it was good to see furniture both front and back garden. A minor niggle was the lack of curtains in the double bedroom as the blinds were insufficient to block light. The welcome pack was a nice touch. It was immaculately clean. The location is ideal for quick access to the beach, Bamburgh and in a quiet cul de sac.

Location- Excellent Cleanliness- Very Good Nice touches- The owners left a vase of daffodils and a bottle of fizz which were very welcome. Young Children- There were no child friendly tumblers/bowls/plates etc. which made mealtimes rather hazardous. Also the kitchen is on the ground floor with the lounge and 2 bedrooms upstairs. This also poses a problem if young children are constantly going up and down the stairs (toddlers). The house and bedrooms are pleasantly decorated but the beds and pillows are firm. Only 1 TV in the lounge although wall plugs fitted in bedrooms to presumably, accommodate TV’s. Overall a lovely stay with family and grandchildren!
