What our customers say about their holidays

This property is a great size.
That's the only positive thing I have to say about it. The place is filthy and smells of damp & mould. On arrival at the property I had to call the maintenance guy as I couldn't get the door open. I got it & while on the phone, he asked me if the place was clean. I said I didn't know as I'd just got the door open but told him it better be clean & he asked me to go and look! The fact he was willing to let me walk into it when it hadn't been cleaned should have told me everything. Once in, there was an overpowering smell of air freshener and damp. I eventually found a plug in & switched it off. There was mould in quite a few places & the smell was just awful. I went through to the utility room and was disgusted with what I found. The smell was even stronger there. There was a mop bucket full with filthy water. This was water from a leak in the roof! It was filthy. The washing machine also had a bit broken which could be dangerous for kids. I had to message the owner to get it emptied as it had been raining & the bucket was overflowing. I certainly wasn't touching it. It was obvious it hadn't been emptied for my arrival. It was over the floor & going in behind the machines. He did get it emptied but by the Thursday, it was going over the floor again as the bucket wasn't catching it all. I was disgusted by the place and was so upset I wanted to leave & was looking up hotels. In the end I had to stay because my 16 year old grandson is autistic & he didn't want to share a room with me & he couldn't be left in a room on his own. The games room - something he was looking forward to but after one look, he didn't go near it. The wallpaper is hanging off the walls, the owner would be better just ripping the hanging bits off. The kitchen - the lino is coming up and someone could easily trip over it. I used the cooker once, there is a horrible greasy smell around it. My grandson wouldn't use the plates, I had to buy paper plates for him. He actually wouldn't use the shower either cos it was mouldy. The backyard was full of cigarette ends. The whole place was just a mess. A mouldy bathroom with rust over the accessories. Had it not been for my grandson, I would have left as soon as I walked through the door. I honestly don't know how this property can be rented out, it's a health risk. We left a day early, I just couldn't stand it anymore.

On arrival it was an instant .
.Ahhh how lovely, this is perfect !!! Easy access via the black gates for our Free Lander to park up, with plenty of space for ourselves & two Cockapooâs to enjoy the enclosed courtyard. Which looked pretty with filled pots of flowers & shrubs, a comfy bench, a patio table/ chairs. Enjoyed our first morning eating breakfast outside in the sunshine, some afternoons too, was a nice little sun trap so made the most of the outside area when possible over a typical rainy / windy bank holiday. Entering this little gem of a find it felt warm & inviting, very clean with tasteful decor & furnishings throughout with everything provided that you could possibly need for an enjoyable, home from home comfortable stay. Good layout when taking dogs, being able to close off rooms etc. Lots of little extras, appreciated the milk & welcome treats, thank you & a Woof from Nelly & Teddy too. Especially loved the warm glow of the lighting which made relaxing of an evening feel very cosy. The night lights were an excellent idea. Great location & perfect base to explore surrounding areas which we enjoyed doing so on foot & via the frequent bus service. So close to the dog friendly beach with a short walk to a beach cafe which welcomed dogs. Gorgeous Ashton Park to walk around just five minutes away which you pass as you stroll into the busy friendly Town Centre. Enjoyed the walk along the beach front, passing the Pier & the attractions. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Mews Cottage.. even met the lovely lady who prepares the accommodation for guests, taking the opportunity to thank her too. Best wishes, Sandy & Tony.

We absolutely loved our stayat St Heliers, however there are a few points we'd like to make in order to improve the property for future guests.
.. Critique: As many others have pointed out, the property would benefit hugely from a second toilet downstairs (perhaps part of the laundry room could be converted). The house requires a more thorough clean throughout, before each new guest arrival. Stains on the walls, a thin layer of dust on surfaces & dusty old carpets could easily be improved. There was someone else's used disposable BBQ in the back yard when we arrived, along with cigarette butts, which was off-putting. Also PLEASE get some larger bowls - we bought cereal to eat and it was like eating it out of a thimble using the bowls provided, they're tiny! The bin was surrounded by small flies when we arrived too, could probably use a thorough wash with hot water and bleach. The kitchen sink needs a washing up bowl to help reduce water use. Good stuff: We loved the provision of WiFi, the handy guide provided before our stay, on-street parking with permit, the washer & dryer facilities, the games room for the kids was a huge hit, the large fridge-freezer, dining table with plenty of space and chairs, the several bedrooms and comfy beds, extra bedding and towels provided, and the general enormity of the property. The house is huge and you definitely have enough room to spread out, enjoy plus everyone have their own space as a family. Thanks so much for a lovely stay - hopefully improvements can be made and we'll recommend you to anyone heading to Blackpool in future!

This was my second stay at Mews Cottage, my husband & I stayed in October 2023 with our dogs.
This time it was a mum/daughter get away with the dogs. It was as remembered very clean & cosy, kitchen well equipped for our needs. There is a throw provided to put on the bed if needed should your dogs go on the bed, we had brought one with us on this occasion & used that to cover the bed. Close to the dog friendly North beach (5mins walk) which the dogs loved. We were lucky enough to be there for the air show which was an added bonus as this wasnât planned. I have a Qashqai which I could park quite comfortably in the yard. The small enclosed yard is great for the dogs as it is safe & they canât get out. We were lucky with the weather & only had a couple of rainy days. We had a couple of visits from family over the week & were able to enjoy sitting outside in the yard which is a great sun trap. It is only a 5min walk to the town with all amenities, there are a lot of dog friendly places to eat which is great. Michael is at the other end of the phone if needed. We only had one occasion to contact him just before we left & he responded quickly. We met the lady who cleans the property just before we departed, who is delightful & we had a long chat as we both originate from Manchester. All in all we had a lovely week & will definitely be back! Patricia, Lydia & Pooches

Cables hanging down the wall from tv.
house smelled damp. mattresses badly stained ( no mattress protector) and a double sheet was stretched to use on a king size mattress, so didn't reach down the sides to fully cover the mattress, and because it was so tight, when you sat on it the mattress turned up at both ends. really needs a second toilet ( one toilet between 8 people is useless, especially when bath or shower is in use) needs to be mentioned in description that there are numerous and steep stairs ( no good if you have any mobility issues) cleaners still on site and not finished at 4pm when we arrived. beds were horrendously uncomfortable, could feel the springs, and they creaked every time you moved. wind howled through the house when bedroom doors were shut keeping everyone awake at night. cracked and loose grouting in bathroom, and flooring sticking up needs to be re-glued Plus Points. close to pleasure beach and promenade. house was big, and had all that was needed. games room was a big plus for the kids in the evenings. we have used Sykes holidays a few times now and this house sadly is not of there usual standard it was more like student accommodation, basic and not homely at all, lack of love and tlc, and general maintenance
