What our customers say about their holidays

I have already done a review but here is what I wrote: Perfection is very difficult to find as we all have different perspectives.
One man's (or woman's) meat is another man's poison so to speak. Granny's Cottage, for me, was a full-blown three course dinner! The welcome from Hazel was beyond warmly inviting. She was waiting at the threshold to welcome me into a central hall from which a warm and gently lit living room, with a glowing (imitation) open fireplace, was waiting for me to settle in for the evening. I had a quick tour of the cottage with Hazel, which is just as I imagined 'Granny' herself had left it. Upstairs were two spacious bedrooms, a double and a single. I only used the double as I was on my own and found the bed to be just right for me, firm and comfortable. Plenty of spare blankets and pillows too (not that they were needed). The bathroom is a good size with a large walk-in shower and plenty of towels etc. Back downstairs to the kitchen, opposite side of the hallway from the sitting room, and what a lovely welcome was waiting for me in here! The table had been set as a 'high tea' for one with a box of lovely 'goodies' and home baking to keep me munching on during my stay. I should mention that the kitchen is as large as the sitting room so there is plenty of room to do some proper cooking (if you are that way inclined). There was also enough room for me to turn half of the kitchen into a temporary 'art studio' (I was on a 'working holiday). This is a delightful and very well equipped 'period' cottage. Some people may consider it to be rather 'dated' with the furnishings and fittings, particularly in the kitchen with its 60's / 70's units; but for me it just took me back to my childhood days (I'm in my sixties). Each room is full of books and knick-knacks, giving Granny's Cottage a true lived-in feeling. There is nothing short or missing in this cottage. It is a wonderful home-from-home comfortable and pleasant place. Even before I ended my stay I was making plans for my next visit. Finally, the location itself. Dunbeath is a small community that has a great deal of very interesting historical 'tales'. I would recommend a visit to the Dunbeath Heritage Museum at the top of the hill to find out more about the archeology and history of the area, including the author Neil Gunn. There are lots of lovely walks to take from the doorstep. The more adventurous could walk along the Dunbeath Strath which starts from the old corn mill (now a salmon hatchery and offices above). Shorter walks to the harbour and beach are very pleasant. It is worth a walk along the beach to the cove. I can also recommend Tasty Toes shellfish to go at the harbour - a crab-filled brioche roll makes a really tasty lunch! I have pleasure in saying a big thank you to Hazel and Maurice for their wonderful hosting and conversations during my stay in Granny's Cottage. Annie

The property was beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped.
We had absolutely everything we needed plus loads more! We were a little disappointed with the setting of the property as the photos had been rather cleverly set up to omit the housing estate in the background to the front. The photos made the property look as if it was on its own in a very wild location, however this was not the case. We were surrounded by houses to the front and a rather rundown and broken play park to the rear and felt very overlooked from all directions. The view to the rear of the property (beyond the play park) was stunning though and made up for the disappointment. The property provided a brilliant base from which to explore the Uists and Eriskay, and we absolutely loved the raw and rugged landscapes and beaches. Despite the disappointing location, we would consider returning to the property in the future, purely because of the ease of access to the ferry port and the comfort it provided us during our stay.

What a treat to stay in this beautiful house!
Weâve absolutely loved our stay here and were sorry to leave. This house has made an excellent base from which to explore these gorgeous Islands. We loved the proximity to the Ferry port and Marina. The house is immaculately clean, comfortable and well equipped, we have felt completely at home. The little extras provided were a lovely touch. The ever changing views from the cleverly designed windows were beautiful. We used the binoculars provided to watch the birds, deer, seals and fish jumping in the sea all from the comfort of the sofa. We were able to charge our electric car in the parking space provided. The walk to the hotel and pub was 3 minutes away where we enjoyed a local gin and fresh seafood. The play park and the most picturesque football pitch in Scotland was very handy for the kids to explore! We will definitely be back!

We spent two weeks here and loved it.
Clean, comfortable and great views. The first big draw is the huge windows. You can sit and look south across the sea to Barra, or you can see west (spectacular sunsets), and north to the hills. Itâs just a couple of minutesâ walk to the beach. We saw short eared owls several times from the house, and there is a lot of bird life on the small lochs nearby. The house was spotlessly clean and had a good kitchen with panoramic views. The wifi was excellent - we had no problem watching Netflix on our laptop. The South Uist beaches are stunning and go on for miles, and we had two excellent otter encounters. We visited Eriskay, Barra, Vatersay and finally made it to St Kilda! It was wonderful to have this house to come back to and we felt totally relaxed here.

The property is a beautiful old fishermanâs cottage near the Dunbeath harbour.
It was immaculately clean and beautifully kept. Fully equipped with everything you need, we only ate out once and cooked the rest of the time with no problems. My only complaint, and itâs a very personal and subjective issue, was the bed was so hard and uncomfortable I didnât sleep for the week. The living room furniture was also more firm than we would have liked but as I have said, this is really a personal preference problem. The owners were lovely and very welcoming. A great wee base to explore the surrounding area which was, as expected, as stunning as it was rugged. If a new more medium firmness mattress was purchased then we would return without question.
