What our customers say about their holidays

The property itself offered all we hoped for in terms of accommodation and location, which was in a lovely setting close to the coast.
Unfortunately however things didnât get off to a good start when we arrived at the cabin to find the cleaner still busily sorting out the place from the previous occupants. He had apparently been informed he had till 4 pm to complete his task, when in fact our contract with Sykes stated we would have full access to the property from 3 pm! Having waited some 15-20 minutes for him to finish we then entered the cabin and were immediately confronted by the overwhelming odour of damp dog! Closer inspection also showed remnants of what appeared to be evidence of dog biscuit/chews scattered about the carpeted area of the lounge. Coupled with this the glass doors leading out to the decking were visibly smeared with unsightly dog slaver and paw marks. After opening all the doors and windows as wide as possible I then found the vacuum cleaner in one of the cupboards. Before switching it on however I was shocked to find it completely choked with dirt and dog hairs which rendered it useless in picking up anything at all! (Photos of this were sent to Sykes as proof) After spending several minutes emptying and cleaning it I then set about hoovering all the carpeted areas throughout the cabin, which, to my amazement, half filled the hoover back up again. Later in the afternoon following a visit to nearby New Quay in stopped to pick up some carpet deodoriser and air freshener from a local store. On our return to the cabin I then liberally sprinkled the deodoriser over the entire carpet and once again set to hoovering throughout. This process had to be repeated several times during our stay as the smell of dogs kept returning! This unpleasant situation plus the absence of any bin bags which were promised AND missing cushions from the decking furniture, which had obviously been removed prior to our arrival and were nowhere to be found, all added up to a disappointing experience on a trip we had very much been looking forward to! I understand that people are encouraged to bring their pets with them to properties of this nature, which I have no problem with at all! What I would expect however is for property owners to conduct a thorough and extensive clean after each visit, to ensure future occupants donât have to endure a similar experience to ours!

At first glance, the property seemed lovely & was nicely presented.
However, the twin beds need replacing, not only are the bases ripped, the children (7 & 12) found them hugely uncomfortable due to the springs being very prominent. I had to take the quilt out of the cover & lay it inder the bottom sheet. The worktop in the kitchen is hugely unhygienic. At the join, it is split & lifting up. If, in your own home this is how you have it, that's personal choice, but not acceptable to your paying guests. It was clear it hasn't just happened either. Basically, it needs a lot of tlc ie.damaged furniture replacing. When getting cutlery out, several pieces were dirty, so we washed it all (including the tray which had a lot more than cutlery in it!) & one of the wine glasses had bright lipstick on it, consequently, we washed everything before using it as it made us dubious about anything being clean, which was a shame. The WiFi was intermittent which meant the telly lagged a lot, which was frustrating but probably easily solved, we noticed a few people had commented the same in the guest book. There was a huge empty telly box, Christmas decs, cleaning equipment (upright hoover, mop & bucket etc) & bits of cupboard/shelving & so on in the main wardrobe which was annoying as it took up a fair chunk of valuable space. Particularly when there was a locked cupboard, presumably for cleaning stuff where some of it could've been housed.. All that being said, the park was in a gorgeous location, was quiet in the evenings (but FYI, they are doing the park up/putting more lodges in etc so lots of heavy equipment going past the lodge at 8ish a m, in case you didn't already know) & after a bit of money spent on replacing things the owners must already be aware of (lining on curtains or blinds as well) & more thoughtful reorganisation of their personal equipment, this lodge has the potential to be absolutely fantastic!

Firstly let me get the negatives out of the way and hopefully this will assist others that are looking to book this Lodge.
After a drive of 7 hours from Glasgow we arrived at this Lodge to find it cold and a musty smell. Heating was all switched off, free sat box did not work. No internet connection although when I did enquire I was given the code to connect to wifi however even though you had wifi you had no internet access. So had to use all data allowance on phones. No soap available and no toilet rolls. Once again the owner apologised for cleaner not leaving some. Think the cleaner had other things on their mind as there was dog hairs under the sofa and chairs. Duvet cover was and torn and needed replaced. However I don't think this is all down to the owner people who stay here need to accept some responsibility too if they don't clear up after themselves. Hob needs replaced as its seen better days and is old and engrained in dirt we never used it. If you are a large gent like me better to sleep in the two single beds rather than try and squeeze between wall and double bed to get to your side. Now it may sound as if I have nothing good to say about this lodge far from it. When heating was on it was cosy and snug. Beds were actually ok and able to sleep. Tv worked although did not go on a break to watch tv. New Quay only five minutes away by car, Cardigan bay 17 miles and Aberystwyth 20 miles. Local shop on site and PUb served food so was handy. What I will say is if you want a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle and have dogs ideal. Plenty of walks and you will need to be a driver to get around. Unfortunately due to circumstances we had to cut break short and return home to Scotland so had to leave 3 days early. Avoided all the bad weather.

My wife and I have just spent a lovely week at Cwtsh Cragen New Quay.
On arrival we were greeted with a lovely card from our hosts welcoming us as their very first guests. To mark the occasion they had left us a nice bottle of wine and a welcome pack containing some local Welsh produce. Which was very thoughtful of them and gratefully received. The apartment is located in a very quiet area and appeared to be newly decorated and spotlessly clean. There are two quite large bedrooms with plenty of storage and hanging space. The living area contained mostly new furniture and the kitchen/dining area also contained mostly new electrical appliances and an excellent assortment of cooking utensils and cutlery items. The smart TV and Wi-Fi worked fine and there was also a selection of books to read. Everything you could require in a holiday rental seems to have been catered for. Cwtsh Cragen is situated right on the edge of the coastal path/Dylan Thomas Trail that can be accessed from the bottom of the communal lawn. A short walk along this path brings you to a flight of steel stairs giving you access to the beach where when the tide goes out you can take a pleasant stroll along the sand into New Quay harbour and town. We are both well into our 70âs and had no problems with access to any of these areas. Hoping to visit you again later in the year until then a massive thank you to our hosts. Hereâs wishing you a very successful future with Cwtsh Cragen!!

Fronwig is a great location with amazing views.
For a 5 star property we expected a few more of the basics to be right though. Needs a better equipped kitchen, baking trays for cooking, chipped mugs to be replaced, kitchen roll etc. Hand towel in the downstairs toilet and handwash. The welcome pack was probably the most underwhelming we have ever had, a pint of milk, and a couple of tea bags is a small cost but always appreciated after a long journey, instead of just a bara brith cake. Be prepared to spend a few hours getting the hot tub filled and the water warm. The garden was secure for the dogs (just one section where, if your dog is inclined, by the front gate, they can get on top of the wall and out). The bedrooms are all a great size with basic furnishings. Overall itâs a beautiful spacious house, could just do with a few more home from home comforts for the price. Do take note of the house info about the parking space being tight, it certainly is if you have a big car.
