What our customers say about their holidays
Susan - Verified booking
We have photos which speak for themselves.
The holiday cottage is a disgrace and is breaching, in our opinion, all advertising standards. To come back from a holiday where all your luggage and clothes reek of damp. The damp "twin" room has no wardrobes, just coat hangers from screws in the walls. Had to store clothes and retain in our suitcases in the very damp pantry. (Photos available) Also in the twin room, we met another guest, a snail crawling on the rug disgusting and very distressing. The next night we found another one on the wall behind the bed nearest the window. (photo available) This was removed pronto. In every room, reed diffusers have been placed to obviously try and mask the damp smell. The pantry ceiling appears to leak as we found water on the window ledge (photos available) after heavy rain and the ceiling is all damp. The cleaning of the cottage is non-existent, filthy in a word as photos illustrate. Garden is a mess; the lawn not mowed, roses are all overgrown over the arch and footpath as are shrubs when entering the pedestrian gates. A collection of chicken wire, old rusty iron bars and barbed wire are used in two separate places in the garden and add to the squalor of the place. not good for children or elderly persons (photos available) The outside brown waste food bucket is mouldy and has not been cleaned out, see photo of same. The whole place looks as if it has been fitted out from a very bad second hand shop. Furniture is ancient and worn, photos available. Curtains in the lounge are very badly stained, dirty and dropping to bits (photos available) The throws over the sofas were not clean. The bedding on the twin beds was grubby and mismatched, photos available of a split duvet and marked pillowcase. The duvet on the double bed was not big enough for the bed. The sofas and beds had black dog hairs all over them obviously where pet had been on them which I know is not allowed. Our pet was not allowed near any of the furnishings but previous renters had not adhered to this. But your cleaners should ensure all is good for next renters which was not done before our visit. This cottage is far from the standard I expect from Sykes Cottages having had numerous accommodations in the past.Where a hospitality tray and visitors manual was provided but not here. When plugging in the electric radiators, the only form of heating, apart from an open fire. The hairdryer each time used overloaded the electricity sockets tripped the electric. I had to ring Sykes to find out where the consumer unit was. There was no instructions left about how to use cooker, microwave or washing machine. Electricity sockets were overloaded all had extension leads or numerous plugs in an adapter. Various photos available. We had no contact details or instructions about the recycling had to ask neighbour when the blue bins went out, but did not know about the Green or Brown one so we left where they were and had not been put out previously as were disgusting. The cottage needs a dramatic upgrade in my opinion and is a health and safety nightmare. (VARIOUS PHOTOS AVAILABLE) When it comes to installing a washing machine in a bathroom, there are a few things to bear in mind. In the UK, due to strict building regulations, plug sockets canât be fitted in the bathroom unless they are at least three metres from the bath or shower. The electric socket for this was just hanging from the ceiling loosely behind, hence we never used the washing machine as we were very worried it would cause a fire or overload the system. The photos on your website of this cottage makes it look very nice which it could be with a lot of maintenance, deep cleaning and gardening. The views from the lounge and double bedroom windows are very nice Was very good to have smart TV and WI FI but was very cold with only having 3 electric heaters, the storage heaters could not be operated and had no instructions. If we had put on the fire every night we would not have had enough wood for the week. We have lots of photos we could send you to validate our findings. If you can let me have e mail or postal addresss to get these to you. We were so looking forward to this visit and have been very disappointed, All of us have come home with chesty coughs and colds due to the damp conditions. I hope for future renters that you ensure improvements are done or you may continue to get more complaints. I understand people have different ideas and standards of cleaning but this has not even had the basic cleaning done before we rented. Asked if we would rent the cottage again definitely a big NO. Would not give it any star rating at all,. In every room, reed diffusers have been placed to obviously try and mask the damp smell. I write this with upset, however I have returned home feeling absolutely ripped off.
The first thing we noticed was how dirty all the floors were on our arrival, wiping dirt off the bottom of our feet. Hair everywhere including the shower. Rust in shower. Paint coming off a lot of the walls. Cooking oil on the shelves in the cupboard above the info booklets. Fridge smelt strongly of food on arrival, a pasta ready meal box had clearly frozen to the back from the previous customers. Nothing had been cleaned. Water trapped under bathroom cup which smelt foul. No hairdryer as advertised, the mini cooker is unusable as the inside is covered in rust (photo available) and smells strongly of burnt chemicals. We washed our clothes, having been away for a week already on the first night and woke up to slug trails all over our clean clothes (photo available) that were in the kitchen area. We didn't feel comfortable cooking in the house, or using any of the kitchen equipment because of the slugs and rust in the cooker. We woke up to a slug on the bedroom floor one morning (photo available) After one wash, the washing machine never worked properly again, we had to ring everything out and then the dryer stopped working and cutting out after 1.5minutes (video available). There is no clothes dryer to hang any clothes so our clothes have been wrecked due to constantly being damp. The outside bin was not collected the entire 8 night stay, and passers by using the bin so we ended up with nowhere to put rubbish. On check out day, a man arrived to the house 2 hours before check out time trying to get in, talking loudly on the phone outside and looking in the bedroom window at me and my partner in bed. Then he lurked outside the house for the next 2 hours watching us move our stuff out. We received no welcome gift as other reviewers have stated. I am seriously upset I have paid £685 for this. If I had any money left, we'd have left and gone elsewhere. The location was great, but the house was lacking in any sort of practicality and comfort.

All in all Clydfan is a nice enough holiday cottage in a good location for Caernarfon town centre.
On arrival there was a welcome bottle of wine and we were delighted to see plenty of teabags, sugar and coffee provided, they also provide washing up liquid, cleaning products and even laundry tablets. However, there were also a few expected basics missing - no further bin bags to the one in the rather small bin so we had to buy a roll, no tea towels (only disposable cleaning clothes) and no bath mat. It was useful to have a separate washer and dryer. Also, there are great amount of convenient sockets (some w USB sockets) around the cottage - something that can be an issue in older buildings. However - some of the facilities are rather basic. There is only a tiny counter top oven and the fridge is very small, though it did have a little freezer. In the sitting room a smaller but more comfy sofa would be better, and some table or floor lamps, as the main light is very harsh. The dining table only had very small stools which were not comfortable and a couple very rickety. Though the bathroom is large there is nowhere to put a sponge bag down, and no hooks or rails on which to hang the towels (a basic table by the shower and some wall hooks would do it). There is a large storage cupboard in the bathroom, but it is full of cleaning stuff for the cottage, when it mightâve been useful for storage for guests. Similar issue in the bedroom, there is a hanging rail and two tiny bedside tables, but with a bit of thought something like a chest of drawers, or even some shelves, to put folded clothes in, could fit and wouldâve been very useful. the bed itself is a rather small double, and not hugely comfortable.

This is a great pied a terre for a couple needing a base to explore the area.
It had all the basics and a comfortable bed, however the sitting/kitchen area is very small but functional. Not at a comfort level for chilli g out after a day of exploring. One huge advantage is that the property is dog-friendly and within walking distance of the town centre, Castle and quayside. A walk up to Ben Twt is also just over the road, where you can take in some great views. A few small things that may spoil the enjoyment of others, but we're not issues for us as we were out and about most of the time: 1. We could not find the WiFi password, however our mobile connection was quite good in the area. 2. Take care not tonsil the kettle if someone is in the shower, it seems to have tripped the fuse. The fuse box was easy to locate and reset. 3. We could not get any hot water in the kitchen are. Easy enough to boil a kettle, but if you were doing more cooking it may be a bit inconvenient. 4. Note this property has no outside space. Overall, very well presented and convenient for the town centre. An unusual and hidden away area of town. The bottle of wine and bag of dog chews was much appreciated on arrival. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

We were staying at Clydfan for a week and wished we could stay longer.
Caernarfon is a great place to visit and you can visit many parts of Snowdonia by bus from here. The property itself is very cosy, and very well equipped. It has a double bed in the sleeping room and a sofa that can be converted into a -not the most comfortable- double bed if needed. The property has fast internet and a smart TV where you can log in your Netflix for rainy days. There is a microwave for the lazy days or a modern hob when you want to prepare a nice dish. There is also a small oven good enough for a normal size pizza :) There is also a wash machine and a dryer which was a massive help for us. The bathroom is nice and spacious and has a nice big shower. The whole place feels very modern, it's a perfect place to stay and minutes walk away from big shops, the city centre and the bus station as well. And the bonus? Just next to Clydfan there is a small hill looking over Caernarfon and Anglesey, perfect place to enjoy a beautiful sunset. I'd recommend this place for families as the sofa-bed is more children sized than for adults, but overall the place is a perfect base for your Caernarfon and Snowdonia adventures. Highly recommended.
