What our customers say about their holidays

âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸ A Brilliant Family Getaway at Sykes Cottages' Ranbir House We recently had the pleasure of staying at Ranbir House through Sykes Cottages, and it was nothing short of a brilliant family getaway!
The house exceeded our expectations, providing everything we needed for a memorable holiday. The games room was a highlight, especially for our three little boys who couldnât get enough of the arcade machine. The table tennis table was another excellent addition, keeping everyone entertained. And the hot tub? Absolutely magnificent â the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. We also loved rediscovering old favorites with the extra board games provided; it was such a fantastic touch. The views were simply breathtaking. Enjoying breakfast and dinner while overlooking the rolling hills and watching sheep graze was a serene experience that added to the overall sense of peace and relaxation. The stream running through the garden added an unexpected but much-appreciated layer of well-being that we didnât even realize we needed. There was so much to do in the surrounding area that we couldnât fit it all in! We explored Puzzlewood, took on a family bike trail in the Forest of Dean, and visited some great award-winning pubs. A special mention to Farmer Boys for a delicious meal out, and the Forest Bakery in Longhope was an absolute gem. We even managed to cook a Sunday roast with local produce, and the cottage had everything we needed to make it a success. We were a group of two families, one with five members and one with three, and there was ample space for everyone. The bedrooms were spacious, clean, and met all our needs perfectly. With so much more to explore, weâre already planning our return. Ranbir House is a five-star retreat that we would recommend to any family looking for a perfect countryside escape.

We absolutely loved our stay!
On arrival we were greeted with a lovely warm, clean house with everything we needed to start our holiday such as; tea, coffee, butter and milk plus some added luxuries too which were very appreciated! We read through the welcome pack which was helpful, there is lots of space in the back which we felt could have included how the house should be left e.g where the cleaners wanted the towels, what temp the heating should be on, where the key should be left, hopefully we did everything right. Also a few local leaflets for days out would have been super helpful but not too much of problem given the WiFi. There were a couple of very minor issues in the bathroom; the window was either stuck closed or quite stiff, we didn't force it for fear of not closing it again. There was also some mould on the bottom of the shower curtain and around the bath. The kitchen was really well equipped and appliances were easy to use. The extendable dining table was great when we did lots of food for all of us. The house was in a great location, the kids loved watching the stream train go by on occasion. We walked to a local Italian restaurant and then onto a cocktail bar (Tabu) which were both amazing, as was Queens Fish and Chips. Overall a very good stay and we'd happily book again!! Huge thank you to the owners for great hospitality.

When we arrived at the property, we let our dogs out into the "enclosed garden" only to find that it was not enclosed, and the dogs escaped through an un-gated side entrance.
Fortunately, the maintenance team addressed this issue the next day by blocking the 3ft pathway with a pallet, which effectively resolved the problem. Thankfully, the dogs were unharmed, but the property should not be described as dog-friendly with an enclosed garden. On the surface, the property's cleanliness seemed fine. However, as we began using the facilities, it became clear that the cleanliness was not up to the expected standard. We found hairs in the kitchen drawers, tea-stained mugs, dirty pans and cutlery, crumbs in the oven, layer of grime onto of oven's extractor fan and fridge (both at eye level) and cobwebs throughout, to name some of the issues. Additionally, the upstairs area had a stale smoke odor and clearly needed a deep clean. Sykes did offer to re-clean the property during our stay, but this was halfway through our visit, which was inconvenient. We didn't want a cleaner there while our belongings were in the property, nor did we want to deal with the awkwardness of having the property re-cleaned while we were there. We also didn't want to restrict ourselves to staying at the property when we wanted to be out enjoying the Cotswolds. The property should have been properly cleaned before we arrived.

We loved the well equipped, comfortable and very spacious cottage.
There was a lot of attention to detail and the equipment was of very high quality. The flowers, milk and biscuits were very gratefully received and a lovely touch. Thank you. Lovely views and very clean. The only reason I didnât give it 5 stars for cleanliness is that there was a lot of dog hair from a previous pet, and general debris under the furniture in the lounge which we found when we dropped something under there. The other issue was the recycling from previous week had filled the blue bin outside so we had to collect ours up indoors with nowhere to put it once the internal bin was full. We did leave a note to say that some kitchen scissors would be useful but a minor point - as would a slip mat for the shower which we went out and purchased to avoid a nasty accident. Overall a lovely cottage and we would definitely return - there are a lot of things to do in the area and we didnât do them all in one visit. Thank you for a great stay in a lovely cottage.

A beautiful old house in a small village.
We got to feel what it would be like if we owned some kind of small stately home. We had plenty of space, The kitchen was big enough to dine in most evenings and the dining room made a great table for playing games in the evening and my teenage son loved pretty much having an entire floor to himself. The living room was lovely and we could also relax in the evenings there. Facilities were great, although the only shower is up in the very top floor. I know some folks have complained about cobwebs and such and yes the it isn't spotless, but honestly if you want that kind of thing, stay in a hotel. If you want character and an old English house then this is the place for you. There are plenty of things to do all within about 30 minutes drive. If I wanted to return to the area to stay I would have no qualms about staying here again.
