Dog Friendly Holiday Cottages

Dog-friendly cottages are ideal for people whose idea of leaving a dog behind in kennels when they go on holiday is like leaving a member of the family behind. Travelling a long way, or staying in a cramped hotel room isn't relaxing for your pet, or you - so what better than being able to take a short UK break in a beautiful holiday cottage with your dog and being safe in the knowledge that your pet will be welcome when you arrive. The health benefits for your pooch and for you are proven - so take your dog walking in the open air - along forest paths, up craggy hillsides, or to one of the UK's many pet friendly beaches where you both can run on the sand and take a dip in the sea (pets seem to be keep do this, even in the colder months!)

Self-catered weekend breaks mean you can take a break from home life but for your dog you're still in a holiday cottage where your dog is welcome - a home from home for the whole family. Here at Last Minute Cottages we have put together a list of dog-friendly cottages and pet-friendly holiday cottages all available at the last minute. All of the properties on this list accept dogs but it is always best to double check when booking (in case their policy has changed!) and it is always worth asking the property owners on our main list whether they accept dogs - even if they don't advertise the fact, some cottages will accept dogs that are well behaved and small!

Pet Friendly Destinations

Much of the UK is open to pets. Here are our recommendations of our favourite destinations to take your pet:

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Gof - Verified booking

We have stayed at numerous properties and this could be the worst.

On our first evening the TV failed with a bang. Richard was really helpful and arranged for a replacement. No problem there but many issues with fitments and general presentation of the property. The main door is weak and an intruder could easily gain access. Very poor security. Two bathrooms are listed. The downstairs has a hand basin and toilet. Carpeted floor with no pedestal mat. Not hygienic. The upstairs shower is desperately small and barely adequate. Heating is by night storage heaters. These are rusty and in generally poor condition. Not a good way to heat a property, particularly at this time of year when temperatures varied from quite hot to cold. All electrical appliances have inspection dates of 2017 and are cheap quality. The kettle, for instance, only worked at times if the switch was held down. Some of the plates were chipped. Cutlery was limited. A poor selection of ill sorted items. Only four table knives for instance. Certain items missing, such as a fish slice. Old cracked non stick coated frypan. Generally poorly equipped. Table too small to spread a newspaper. Two very rickety chairs. Lighting too dim to read by. No surface to put anything down other than window sills. A coffee table would have helped considerably. Little storage space in the bedroom. Two small bedside cabinets. A small desk with three drawers. A small child sized wardrobe. All looked like random charity shop purchases. No 'welcome pack' with details of nearest doctors, refuse arrangements and so on. Some of the equipment leaflets applied to items which were no longer there. Overall, very disappointing and we were pleased to be able to leave. The low rating in the recommending category is down to the almost unreadable booking details. Certainly a format that does not work with Apple computers.

To be honest, after reading a review posted a week or two before our arrival, we did wonder what we would find.

As is usual, during our research when booking a holiday we had scrutinised the photos on Sykes' website and thought we had a fair idea of what to expect. We are glad to report there are no hidden horrors and all was as expected. After driving along a woodland drive carpeted with bluebells, red campion, cow parsley and so much more, we found the property set in a secluded corner of the 14 acre estate (which has mown paths around the field edges and pond for you to wander and explore - great for a dog walk in the evening after a day out). It was beautifully warm, clean and comfortable. It suited us and our dog perfectly. The whole area is criss-crossed with ancient public footpaths which lead to little villages and coast paths. There is a lovely track which starts just down the hill (to the right) from the property which will take you to Mullion village (c 1 mile). It was the perfect property for our break and without doubt we would go again. (PS. Perhaps if the author of the rotten review had researched he would have found fewer 'surprises' and maybe consider his manners and address petty issues direct with the host) "

Josephine’s Cottage is absolutely precious! It has everything you could need and having an enclosed back yard made it so convenient if you have a dog with you. Heating worked well and there were logs for one night’s fire (along with detailed instructions on how to use the wood-burning stove, which was appreciated as it was my first time). It was great to have a washer and dryer. Parking was easy on the green across the street. The stairs up to the bedroom are quite steep and may not suit everyone. The one cafe in Great Walsingham is an absolute delight; the owners are lovely, and the food is delicious. There’s a great gallery right there, too. The cottage owners recommended a short circular walk to Little Walsingham which I second, and the Abbey in town had beautiful grounds, medieval ruins and fields covered in snowdrops. The only thing I would note is shower water pressure isn’t very good but all the other positives heavily outweigh that one negative. I had a wonderful stay - it was a fantastic introduction to North Norfolk. I was gutted to leave and hope to return soon!

We had a very relaxing time at Higher Lampra.

.. beautiful old upside down cottage set in tranquil, private surroundings. It was lovely coming back to it after a trip out and driving down the lane with stunning wildflower hedgerows. The cottage is warm and cosy, nicely furnished and with great views of the surrounding countryside. Although small, the kitchen is well appointed which was important for us as the evenings were too cold to sit outside at a restaurant so we self-catered. Lots of information is supplied for trips out and a selection of videos for evenings in.The cottage is nicely placed for exploring the tip of Cornwall and also has lots of public footpaths around it if you don't feel like getting in your car. The family who run it are very friendly and keen to make sure everything is as you want it. It really felt like home for two weeks, we didn't want to leave and we would love to go back sometime.

We spent a week at Higher Lampra and it couldn't have been more enjoyable.

The property is a cosy, well maintained, sweet little cottage. It's 'hideaway' setting was perfect for privacy but within walking distance of the lovely Mullion village. With a car all attractions, beaches were accessible with the property providing a tranquil setting to relax after a full day. The setting is lovely with fields and a small lake perfect for walking our dog and the property has the bonus of a secure dog-friendly garden. The host, Justin was really friendly and helpful. We had a little problem with the shower unit and Justin quickly sourced and fitted a new one while we were out that day. He was great. We would strongly recommend Higher Lampra and would visit again.
