What our customers say about their holidays
Kimberley - Verified booking
This is a great sized lodge for a family of 4.
We had enough room between the bedrooms and the large family bathroom and en-suite. Nice decor and upon arrival it seemed great. Location is great some really local activities to do with young children. The safari zoo in Ulverston was great and Sizergh Castle was only a short drive too. The site is well kept and there is a nice walk around the lake and was very quiet. The cleanliness of the lodge was not acceptable. Upon arriving the lodge seemed clean and tidy. Until I sat down on the carpet with my children and stood up to be covered in dog hairs. I understand that the lodge does accept pets and we as a family have had dogs previously but it felt as though the carpet needed a deep clean. I attempted to the hoover the carpet but the hoover was not picking up. I emptied it and still it wasnât picking up. This meant that we were not able to hoover before we left. There was a brush but it was snapped in half. On day three of our stay there were a lot of ants in the en-suite and were crawling all over the bath matt. There was some ant spray in the kitchen but it would more appropriate to deal with the issue and attempt to get rid of the ants. The dining room table legs were loose and we discovered this as it had to be pulled out for the 4 of us to sit at. The toilet brushes in both bathrooms need to be replaced as they were very dirty and they should be replaced more regularly. The en-suite bathroom had brown marks/stains on the floor around the location of the toilet brushes that made it feel very unclean and unkempt. The en-suite shower in the bathroom had mould marks around its edge and the doors were very dirty in the corners. The edge around the bath had holes in it and was damaged. The couches in the living area at extremely uncomfortable and so was the bed in the master bedroom. It felt as though the property was used a lot but not maintained well. This is frustrating as I have noticed that a review in December stated similar issues. We did try to make contact but the only number I could find in the booking information was a number for Sykes. I was not able to see a direct number to contact the owner. We left the holiday early as our eldest son was unwell and we wanted to be somewhere more comfortable for him to recover. We would not return due to the poor maintenance and cleanliness of the property. It was over priced for what we actually stayed in. Very disappointed.

We received a very warm welcome on our arrival from the team who were obviously trying their best to pull everything together during staff holiday and illness.
The cottage was ideal for our needs and offered easy access to coastal towns, scenic hill drives, independent museums and specialist food cafes and outlets to name but a few. The team were very easy to contact and our initial teething problems were quickly addressed. The accommodation is in a very quiet location and I felt the cottage offered an ideal opportunity to relax. The site offers a charming Woodland Walk with an associated quiz leaflet suitable for all ages to help the understanding of the nature that surrounds the cottage. The novelty of having quietly grazing horses, ponies, the lama and (âHoudiniâ the forever escaping) goat visible from our cottage windows offered delightful daily distraction. On days we want to dine at home, the kitchen was well equipped to allow me to offer a respectable meal and the en-suite bedrooms have comfortable beds, very spacious wardrobe hanging and drawer storage, bedside units and handy drawer storage within the dressing table units. The option of having both bedrooms with separate en-suite facilities allowed my Father to feel he could relax and retire for privacy when he wished if he needed to have time to himself. It was a joy to sit outside the cottage within the enclosed garden area, enjoy the hillside views and watch the variety of bird life and occasional conversations with people walking past. We found plenty to see and do whin easy driving distances of the local area, the green fields, soft hillside valleys and farm animals in fields abound. The lakes are an hours drive away, spectacular scenery of Malham Cove, Hardknott, Wrynose, Eskdale passes and Duddon valley offered gasps around every corner. Local specialist cheese and delicatessen suppliers, artisan ice cream and local cafes and pubs had very amenable staff and local delicacies to satisfy every foodies appetite. A number of Waterfall walks are on offer to suit all abilities, beautiful quaint village architecture is around every corner, streamside picnic spots, cafes, steam train rides, the Lakeland Motor Museum, Lancasterâs Cathedral and Maritime Museum delights await !

Me & my best friend met at Goodenbergh over 15 years ago, and decided to return for a little trip to revisit a place we made so many happy memories in.
The cottage was beautiful, and really lived up to what we had always imagined it was like inside (when we watched it being renovated). It was all nicely furnished & clean when we arrived - with a few little bits to enhance the stay (extra kitchen roll, washing powder etc). One issue with the property was that we found the showers didn't work super well. We couldn't use the showers at the same time, due to one using all the water pressure & one taking all the heat. But we did figure this out after our first full day so it wasn't too much of a problem. We did also have a little issue with an interaction with a staff member on the farm. The two ponies onsite were in the field directly across from us, and while we were sat outside they poked their heads through the fence. We went over to give them a stroke and a lady working the farm shouted at us to 'stop feeding the horses'. Her tone was quite condescending and accusatory, quite frankly. We replied that we weren't feeding them, and she then stated that there were 'carrots all over the field' that morning. Again, we replied that it wasn't us and that we didn't even have any carrots! I think we would have been fine if there was an apology, but it did ruin our evenings a little bit. Every other member of staff we interacted with was lovely and this did not effect our trip too much - just a flag that because we are two young women, we are sure we got the blame solely for this reason. We will absolutely return, hopefully in the summer to try and relive a portion of our six week holidays! Thank you so much for the amazing stay - we can't wait to be back â¤ï¸

I feel I have to respond to the requests you're making.
I feel the cleaning you provide is superficial. It's OK asking your guests to practically clean the lodge before they leave, but the people who you pay to clean the lodge are depending on previous guests cleaning properly. Our lodge was grubby on arrival. The kitchen cupboards had crumbs in, and remnants of dog treats. I had to wash the crockery before we could use it and I had to put the oven racks in the dishwasher as they were thick with grease. The oven could also do with a deep clean. I draw the line at that Iam afraid. Also, remnants of personal hygiene items in the bathroom cupboards. Obviously not been cleaned. I went to use the hoover and the barrel hadn't been emptied so it wasn't picking up. Again, Iam not starting emptying dirty hoovers which should have been done by the people you are paying to do a job. We would always leave a property as we find it but, in this case, you will be glad, we didn't. It's cleaner? I understand you have to take a damage deposited in case of damages but I think you should be offering us compensation if anything. I would appreciate a response to this email.

Great place we loved it, the site was great and although difficult to navigate in the beginning, definitely needs more signs for way in and out, found a few people not knowing which way was out.
The chalet was nice had everything you needed and was comfortable, well set out with great patio furniture. If I was being super critical all I could say was that there are a few minor things need doing with marks on walls and the carpet plus a deep clean particularly in the ensuite and would definitely replace the toilet brush! But that did not stop us from having a great time and as I say these were minor things. I hopefully will be booking again as a great base for us as we love the lakes so great location as near to lots of places. The restaurant staff are friendly and the food was really good. We found a great pub in Carnforth named the Junction, absolutely some of the best food we have had. Lovely staff and really welcome feeling and doggy friendly. Which I must say as a dog owner it was so nice to be somewhere that people were all accepting of dogs, most people on site had dogs but never had any complaint about noisy dogs at all. Even in Carnforth so many people stopped to chat with us regards our 10mth old puppy. She had her 1st holiday and had a smashing time, Thanks x food
