What our customers say about their holidays

I was upset to find there was no phone signal at Cranberry Cottage, this needs flagging up on the website, not something to find out on arrival.
Combined with the owner not being around I felt vulnerable with a medical condition that could need urgent contact by phone. A named person and house to go to would have alleviated my anxiety: there were not " plenty of people around" and no one contacted me. Welcome was generally poor with minimal provision- a few tea bags, sugar, jar of stale , solid coffee but no milk and no oil. Great to have a pepper grinder and to find some vinegar though. Cooking for myself, I needed to run the dishwasher every day, but only 4 tablets were provided. Otherwise the cottage was great, super location for walks of all lengths from the door and an excellent collection of walks leaflets and books for exploration near and far. I loved watching red kite and swallows from the comfy sofa. The shower room with its heated towel rail was very comforting on the day I got drenched and chilled. Good storage in the bedroom with a firm bed, which I like, but a hard mattress that I don't. The living space is bright and open and didn't overheat on the hot days. A lovely place to be.

We had a great week at the Stables, combining contract work locally with a few days tacked on for a break.
It delivered for both. The location is stunning, set in its own little valley full of sheep, with a beautiful river running through it - incredibly peaceful and very green! The track up to the property is probably the best maintained rural driveway I have ever encountered. The house itself is very comfortable and has pretty much everything you could need, with everything working as it should. The beds are really comfortable, there's a wood-burning stove for extra cosiness and the kitchen is fully equipped. The WiFi was excellent. Greg and Marie are friendly and laid-back, careful to give you your own space but also very attentive and helpful when needed. There are plenty of pubs within easy reach, a village shop not far away and lots more a bit further away. We did day trips to Oswestry, Lake Vwrnwy, Pistyll Rhaedr Waterfall, Bala and Welshpool during our stay. Al in all, highly recommended. I have downgraded the accuracy score a bit because I feel the current photos really don't do the house or the surroundings justice!

The cottage itself is very lovely.
Is well equipped for everything you'd need for your week away. There's a welcome chalkboard with all the relevant information you'd need, however unlike 99% of Sykes Cottages there isn't a welcome pack ( ie tea, coffee or milk ) It's an incredibly easy place to keep clean if you take your four legged friend with and walks a plenty just up the road. However visitors should be aware you can't let your dog off a lead when in the 'garden' part of the property. So if you were to visit in the warmer months and wanted to sit out this is something to have in mind. Think it might be an easy fix on the owners behalf by putting gates at the entrances. We unfortunately didn't get a chance to meet Kate on our visit but she was more than helpful on the phone before we arrived and had we had any problems I wouldn't have hesitated in giving her a call and asking her help. Would recommend.

We had a lovely week at Cranberry Cottage.
It is really clean, comfortable and so peaceful. The weather was still quite chilly for springtime but the cottage was always really warm even without using the log burner. It is situated in a lovely area and we did lots of great walks including Stiperstones, Caer Caradoc and Carding Mill Valley which are all very close to Shelve. We had our dog with us and there is a grass area across the courtyard where he could be off lead but dogs need to be kept on lead whilst in the other areas. We would recommend bringing a good torch if you have a dog as it is very dark at night. We found the sofa's and bed to be very comfortable and the window looks out over the fantastic countryside with great views. We would recommend Cranberry Cottage and would definitely stay there again if visiting Shropshire.

Cranberry Cottage is hidden away in a beautiful part of Shropshire and the views are amazing particularly from the lounge / living room framed by a huge window.
The cottage is modern, clean and well equipped for everything and the owner is there if you need her and was very welcoming, even to the point there was new garden furniture and because the weather was so good on first day, it was all laid out ready for me when I got back which was a nice surprise. Shelve has beautiful walks and woodland trails in the forest which I really enjoyed, some phone signals are not good there so if with O2 be mindful that you only have the WiFi for communication. I have rated top marks for everything, maybe a little welcome pack, milk, biscuits would be good as the shop is a drive away would add to the experience as with most sykes cottages.
