  I have to say that we were very disappointed with some aspects of cleanliness at the property, the kitchen and bathrooms in particular.

  I had to clean the ensuite shower tiles before we could use it, picture attached. The pink residue is a build-up of bacteria and skin cells, if this is not cleaned then mould will develop, which it had. The kitchen cupboards were all dirty with grease covering the shelves where the pans are stored, I have cleaned these out as well. Some pans are not fit to be used, (pictures attached) and need to be replaced. The oven was filthy and had not been cleaned for some time, I cleaned this as well, before and after picture attached. The oven trays provided were not fit to use so I purchased 2 new ones which I have left at the property. Also, several pans need to be replaced as they are not fit to be used. There are only 2 dinner forks and 3 small forks, the property sleeps 6 people so there is not enough cutlery, I ate my dinner with a spoon on the evenings we had guests. We found one cupboard full of food, which I presumed perhaps belonged to the owner, so moved it around in order to accommodate our own shopping items. To then receive an email the day prior to departure, reminding us to leave the property clean, tidy, in the same condition we found it and to remove all food from cupboards and fridge, just added insult to injury. We did not remove the food we found in the cupboard. This is not the standard of cleanliness one expects in a holiday rental property. I have more photographs should it be necessary.   The Barn is sited in a pleasant space and is basically Residential and quiet.

  Overall it was generally very clean ie Cooker and Microwave exceptional, bedlinen spotless; likewise towels. Bed in main bedroom very comfortable. I would suggest that a Bath sheet and a Bath towel be provided for each adult along with a hand towel.Also a squegee blade for cleaning the glass shower screen. Shelf / mirror set up over wash hand basin bit of a hazard for banging your head on! Likewise, in the kitchen a supply of hand and tea towels be provided as one tea towel is insufficient for a week's stay. Kitchen has a good array of pans and dishes, it would be good if a few smaller oven proof dishes could be provided when it is only a X2 person occupancy. Some dishes are difficult to reach on the top shelf. A Polypropylene chopping board (Dishwasher safe) as opposed to glass, as glass blunts knives, all knives in the drawer proved this. Understairs cupboard difficult to access for Hoover and mop & bucket, slight damp smell. Sofa's difficult to get out of and are very low. Patio garden could be very pretty but is showing signs of lack of maintenance. Fencing / gate and weeds. A ring binder would be an asset for guests to have all information in one place. Leaflets on places of interest and entertainment, places to eat etc and your refuse/ re-cycling system instead of being in drawers / Notice Board. Also useful telephone numbers of Dentist, Vets etc. Overall a good stay and I hope that the above comments / suggestions are taken as meant, in a constructive way.

  We had a great week.

  Four adults and two young children, we were all very comfortable and had everything we needed. The owners have set the property up extremely well, there are toys and games for youngsters, good garden facilities etc. The property is ideally situated for the beach - a very short walk, but far enough not to be inconvenienced by the very noisy bar. (NB there’s no accessible sand at high tide, but it’s great for kids when the water is lower.) The owners took time to send us a welcome message on our first evening to check we were happy. We had a couple of minor problems/queries and they were very responsive and got everything sorted very quickly. We would suggest a couple of improvements: 1) curtains at the small window in the second bedroom - the blind alone lets too much light in very early in the morning. 2) trim back the bamboo hedge on the road boundary to improve visibility when exiting the drive. There is parking for two good size cars on the drive. It’s a little awkward and took us a couple of days to work out the best way to get it right, but it’s definitely do-able. Over all we loved it.   The property was only surface cleaned there were large cobwebs through out particularly around the front door inside.

  The bathroom sink and bath took a long time to empty as though there was a blockage somewhere. In the kitchen there was no plug for the sink neither was there washing up bowl which would have negated the need for a plug. It would have been useful for there to have been an information package for telephone numbers for local doctors, vets, nearest hospital etc. Also there was no visitors book so that we could see what other people thought. On a positive note the cottage was in a nice rural area the bedding and towels were clean and The Red Lion Pub within walking distance had great food and friendly staff all of which I would have put in a visitors book. I have one health and safety issue the master bedroom has a step up into it, when exiting the room it looks flush with the landing, on the first night my partner went to the bathroom, missed the step(which looked level with the landing) fell forward and hit his head on the facing wall suffering a large gash on his head and badly bruising his foot. There needs to be better lighting in this area and the step needs to be identifiable when exiting the bedroom

  The worst disaster possible with a rental cottage!

  We were able to get in initially but not easily, unpacked all our belongings into the cottage then went out, only to come back and be unable to gain entry. Neither key worked. We phoned the owner twice and left messages, tried to phone Sykes for help but your phone number isn't evident on the website!! Please put it somewhere easy to find. After 40 minutes of persistence with both keys we finally managed to gain entry. Phoned owner again and left another message. She rang back later and arranged for the door fitter to call the next day. He arrived and oiled the mechanism and told us the opening instructions given to us by the owner would result in the door lock mechanism jamming. I passed this information onto the owner together with the correct instructions for opening of the door by email. The situation was resolved but our holiday was spoilt as our nerves were shattered and we no longer had any confidence in our ability to re enter the property. We certainly would never return this property or its neighbour with similar locks.
