What our customers say about their holidays
Sue - Verified booking
Despite being assured when I booked the holiday that the house would be clean, unfortunately it wasnât.
We couldnât use the freezer as it was so iced up, I had to wash the fridge and the cutlery drawer before we used them. The oven was filthy so couldnât use that. The seals on the bottom of the shower doors were filthy with black grime. The house looked generally uncared for. Wallpaper peeling off in the lounge. Door handles scratched. The duvet covers were not fastened. There was a dead wasp in the kitchen window which had obviously been there some time and there was also a dead worm on the lounge carpet in the corner. As far as we could tell all the cleaners had done was hoover the carpets without moving anything and flick a duster round. Fortunately apart from the shower doors the bathrooms were ok.All the window sills needed a good clean, the back yard needed weeding and the furniture jet washing. Given the fact the fact that we have been in lockdown and the property can only have been open a few weeks this house has obviously not been given a deep clean before re-opening. When we had finished unpacking I gave the dog a drink of water, he splashed some on the kitchen floor which I immediately wiped up with clean kitchen paper towel, which, when I looked at it (the kitchen towel) was filthy, obviously the floor hadnât been washed very well. I really donât like complaining but having seen negative reviews on trip advisor I raised the questions of cleanliness when I booked the house. Unfortunately I canât remember the young mans name who made my booking but he was very helpful and contacted the owner who said there had been a problem with the cleaner but this was resolved and the house would be clean. Having been to a cottage in Saltburn last year which was absolutely spotless I booked with confidence. I feel that we should be recompensed in part as we definitely did not receive the quality we paid for and expected. Photographic evidence can be supplied.

This is a very pretty cottage in a pleasant village. The setting is really fantastic, with views across to Castle Howard, a nice garden and outdoor table/seating. The downstairs rooms remained very cool during an extremely hot spell of weather. No welcome hamper is provided, but there was a voucher for the farm shop at Castle Howard and also a voucher giving free admission to the house and gardens on a day during our stay -- that was a nice surprise and of real value. The decoration and furniture of most of the cottage is 'vintage', including some items formerly from Castle Howard itself; the bathrooms are more modern and very good. Our only (very) small criticism would be to echo the earlier reviewers' comments about the kitchen -- it's a nice kitchen and generally well equipped, but (for instance) it was strange that there was no dish-drainer or flat baking tray, and the dishwasher was dirty and not very effective (e.g. tea stains and lipstick were visible on washed items). This didn't spoil our experience -- it was just a tiny drawback. There is a good and popular deli just down the road which we visited many times. We'd be very happy to return to the cottage in the future!

Under the current restrictions and with a later check in time I would expect any holiday house to be spotless.
instead rooms had been superficially cleaned and did not meet our expectations. most rooms had cobwebs which could easily be removed but had been left. the bathrooms were had ingrained dirt. the seals round taps and the showers were mouldy. on arrival I had to go and buy batteries because none of the clocks in the house worked. the main lamp in the living room never worked even with a new bulb. there was no fire alarms. one of the catches on one of the kitchen windows was broken so the window could fully open. this is not acceptable when you are on the first floor and have a child. there is a huge crack in the player beside the front door. overall these may all seem petty complaints but when you rent a house for a week you would expect the basics to be right. I even had to go out and buy bleach for the kitchen sink due to the smell. this house has loads of potential and is ideal size for parties of 6 to 8 people and is ideally situated with two parking spaces. A little investment in this property along with a proper deep clean (including moving the furniture and getting the filth underneath the couches) is required .

Everything exactly as described on the Sykes website for Cha Cha's holiday let.
The cottage is part of a riverside complex with around 50 surrounding cottages. Parking was available with allocated space for one car and further very nearby space for overflow car parking - we had no issues with parking for two vehicles. The cottage was exceptionally clean with all facilities needed for a family or elderly couple. Outside table got daily use, and became an attraction for the resident squirrels and rabbits, much to our enjoyment. Would stay again, and possibly bring our bikes for ventures on the Cinder Track. Walked the Cinder path to Robin Hoods Bay, approx 5 miles, good days walk. Whitby is a nearby walk of approx 20 minutes over the viaduct. Had a meal at the Bridge Inn at Ruswarp, would recommend. So all in all a very enjoyable week stay, with a very clean and well fitted out cottage, swimming pool, plenty of footpaths for walking, nearby Whitby town centre, and we had decent weather for the week, well pleased all round. Many thanks to Cha Cha's and Sykes. Note - down by the riverside is a good spot for watching the kingfishers as the tide ebbs and flows.

Your customer service left a lot to be desired.
Having booked a cot and high chair - essential when you have a baby in the party - and my wife rang to try and confirm this, she was at first kept hanging on the line for ages before getting through. She was then informed that because of GDPR you were unable to speak to me as my name was on the booking - I am quite conversant with GDPR and fail to see how ordering a cot and high chair can be a personal identifier. You then failed to inform the changeover team about the cot and high chair, so it was not available in the accommodation when we arrived. Luckily for us, the cottage owner was very helpful and got the problem sorted out - no thanks to you. It is little things like this which really matter when using a booking agent. If you could not sort out this problem, or be bothered to answer the phone in a timely manner, or communicate effectively with the cottage owner we would not trust you or recommend you in future. We have also heard negative feedback in the same vein from other people who have used your organisation - sort it out!
