What our customers say about their holidays
Rachel - Verified booking
On the day of check in I received a call about 2pm saying they were expecting a plumber to the property as there was a number if issues that needed to be dealt with.
I said we were 3 hours away so that would not be a problem. He said there was a problem with the radiator. The sink and the shower. When we arrived at the property there were 2 dirty bags of linen at the front door making it very difficult to drop off our luggage with it all in the way. On Thursday the housekeep called to ask if the linen was left and could she call to collect it.so this was in our way for whole time we were there. This really was not a good 1st impression. The radiator in the top floor bathroom was absolutely pouring with water when we went upstairs, we had to hand tighten it to stop the flow and leave a bowl under it for the rest of the week. The shower in the same bathroom switched off half way through and would not come back on again. The issues with the water in the top bathroom caused water to to come through the ceiling in the twin bedroom. The shower in in the middle front bedroom leaks from the corner. The radiator at the front door does not work and it is very cold in living room. And the sink in the kitchen sprays out causing you to get soaked every time you use it. I reported these problems and the fact plumber had not been to sykes in Saturday morning. Louis assured me he would get this sorted and someone would be out.. He rang me later that day to ask if anyone had been out which they hadn't. I then insultingly received a email on Wednesday asking me if my case had been sorted and to rate my experience. Noting had been done and the issues are still very much a problem. which is a shame because the property is lovely but it really does need these issues sorting before you start to charge 3 times as much in the summer months..I had read a few reviews previously stating some of the issues which means they have not been addressed which is not very good to say how much we spent to come for a weeks holiday. I await your reply

We were lucky enough to have had a fabulous stay here during the UK heatwave last week.
Sandy was so friendly and accommodating, and had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable including fans in the bedrooms, and towels for the pool! Our children, aged 8 and 4 LOVED the pool and adored the animals. They were allowed to visit them as much as they liked, which was multiple times a day! We also saw several of the wild deer who live around the grounds. The house was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. We had some great days out too - Knebworth House and gardens was super - enough to keep us occupied all day, although the tea shop was disappointing and we recommend taking a picnic. Stockwood Park and Museum was very interesting, and free! The children enjoyed sitting in some of the real carriages. We travelled a little further out to Woburn Safari Park - another fab day for kids and again we were there all day. Hitchin is a lovely town with lots of independent shops, a great market and some really nice eateries. Recommend parking at St Mary's car park and just walking through the market or the churchyard to the shops. Found two lovely pubs to eat in - The White Horse in Tea Green, and The Rusty Gun in St Ippolyts. Both 10 min drive from The Pool House. The Rusty Gun was superb and you can even feed the piglets! If you get a chance, visit the British Schools Museum in Hitchin. There was a special event on when we went and we took part in a Victorian lesson which was brilliant fun and very educational for us and the children. Sandy has provided a few balls and an awesome lilo for the pool. We took some of our own inflatables and garden toys too, and also played table tennis in the barn several times. We were all so sad to leave and would have loved to stay another week! Thank you Sandy for making our holiday so relaxing and special. We will be back!

We had a lovely stay at Marchbourne overall, sadly encountered some issues on our first night however after a couple of days Skyes got this sorted for us & remained in contact with progress reports the entire time.
The home is beautiful, & in an ideal location however the kitchen was poorly equipped, comparing it to other stays with Classic Cottages this was more like a 4* rather than 5. We struggled with the lack of kitchen appliances such as large enough pans & not enough utensils to serve food (7 of us stayed so large volumes of food to be cooked), & the crockery was very chipped, the cutlery we found was dirty & our bed linen was still wet when we arrived. There was still sand throughout the floors of the property & lots of marks on the walls of what could only be described as splatters of insects being killed, there are marks on a lot of the upholstery which we understand is bound to happen due to the volume of stays this beautiful property has. The owners were very reasonable & offered us a refund for the inconvenience which is greatly appreciated & despite some hiccups Skyes Cottages were fantastic, namely Cameron who went above & beyond out of his working hours to ensure that we were ok & issues were resolved as quick as possible. There was also no welcome book or information about how to work appliances, or information about what there is to do locally etc, this was requested from Skyes Cottages & although a very basic guide was sent the information appeared to be old & didnât include anything about the local area. I think if the cleanliness was to a much higher standard & things such as perhaps an information guide was shared it wouldâve been nicer.

Lovely spotless holiday house in a quiet rural location, a credit to the owners.
Everything you need in the kitchen although recycling boxes would be useful, super bathrooms, plenty of towels and comfortable beds. Had a Tesco shop delivered at 4pm on our first day which was perfect and meant we could have a coffee after our three hour drive. Secure beautiful garden for the dog with plenty of space to run around. Great shopping and cafés nearby. Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin worth a visit. We are in our 60âs, 70âs and 80âs so the stairs, which we all found difficult, would benefit from a handrail. The pool was freezing, so far too cold for us to use, which was a great shame as a heated pool was a booking factor for us, and the weather was gorgeous all week. Lovely walks in the surrounding countryside with lots of wildlife to see. Perfect outside dining area which was useful as the stools at the breakfast bar are difficult to use for the elderly. Good Wi-Fi and Smart TV. Good quality sunbeds. All in all a lovely holiday home.
