What our customers say about their holidays

  • Yvette - Verified booking

We really enjoyed our stay at Poet's corner.

It is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The underfloor heating throughout the ground floor was very pleasant - on the verge of too hot even, but fairly easy to turn down - though that was because I knew how these type of things worked, I didn't come across any instructions. The kitchen had everything you could need including tea towels, oven gloves, washing up kit etc. I'd been really organised and brought my own as this isn't aways the case! But it was nice that they were there. The wifi was good enough to stream films over christmas, the location in Bourton was really good, just round the corner from the centre. And having a second sitting room was really nice when you wanted a bit of alone time. We were slightly concerned about the church bells. However i can report that they can't be heard at all in the two first floor bedrooms, only the second floor one, and they were not loud enough to wake you, but you would hear them if you were awake. I really liked them actually. The only negatives were the top bedroom was meant to have a king size bed but it was two singles pushed together (maybe zip and link, not sure), which wasn't as described and the person who used it really didn't want to be in a single bed. The listing should be updated to reflect this. Also the way the twin beds are set up, the bedroom door could not be closed. I had to push the bed by the door to a 30 degree angle to get the door to shut. This might be OK for a children's room but for two adults it would not be great. As I was in there on my own, it wasn't too bad. The shower on the first floor was very pleasant but as it was a waterfall shower it was difficult to use if you weren't washing your hair, which my elderly father wasn't too keen on. It would have been nice to have a second smaller shower head that could be removed from the wall as well. And the shower on the top floor leaked on to the floor the way the doors shut - however it was easy enough for the water to be mopped up. As I said earlier, I didn't find instructions (this may have been me missing them) for appliances or the heating, which would have been helpful. Every brand is slightly different, although most of it is fairly obvious. The microwave took the most working out! The notes haven't been updated since covid so these could be looked at again. Eg we were meant to put linen in provided bags - but there weren't any. Assume no longer required, but is it still required to strip the beds? Not sure. However I could happily have stayed in this lovely cottage - probably forever! We really did enjoy our stay and would thoroughly recommend it - we are a family of 3 adults. I've been on holiday with Sykes before and as always they are easy to deal with, the process is easy, and they respond quickly - a good company.

The property is well situated for the lovely walks in Winchcombe.

However, it's not the most comfortable cottage we've stayed in. First, the positive things. The beds are comfortable and there is good water pressure. The kitchen is well-lit and mostly had the things we needed. There were several things that made it a less than ideal cottage though. Firstly, the top two bedrooms have large velux windows directly over the beds measuring perhaps 3 feet by 4 feet. Unfortunately, there aren't any blinds over these, so the rooms are flooded with bright sunlight the moment the sun rises. So, don't expect to get any sleep the moment it's dawn, which was an issue for us in the spring - and I can imagine it will only get brighter in the summer. Secondly, the two-seater sofa felt rather thin, narrow and inexpensive - certainly not amongst the more comfortable ones that we have had. We often decided to lie on the comfortable beds when reading as the thin sofa was actually a bit uncomfortable to sit on for long. In the lounge, there is also only a two-seater and two armchairs plus two floor cushion / foot stool type things. So, if you are a party of six, some of you will have to sit on floor cushion / foot stools. The house is also on a street that counts as fairly busy for a small town. We go away to a lot of cottages, so we know what life is like in small towns and villages, but in this property we were quite aware of traffic noise early in the morning (maybe 6am) when delivery vehicles were dropping off at the supermarket across the road.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Beau’s House!

The interior is gorgeous. Extremely clean, modern and very homely. The amenities are also great - we particularly loved the Nespresso machine! Helen left us a cake & some milk for when we arrived which was a lovely touch. The location is a perfectly central hub to visit all of the gorgeous Cotswold villages. Bourton-on-the-Water (which was our favourite of the villages) is just over 5 minutes away by car. Stow-on-the-Wold is a similar distance away which is also a beautiful village. Beau’s House is on a new build estate which we loved walking round in the evenings. It’s very quiet & peaceful. There are lots of children’s play areas dotted around and so much greenery too. There is a Co-op opposite the house - very convenient! The garden is south-facing & enclosed making it a nice space for all including our toddlers & dogs. There is also parking for 2 cars and an electric charging point. We will definitely be staying here again when we next visit the Cotswolds!

Lovely house in a perfect location.

We had a lovely time and the beds were all super comfortable. Just a few little things which would have made our stay easier and could be easily rectified:- The clothes horse was in pieces so they need a new one especially as we needed to wash face masks. There was no spatula to use with frying pan to cook our bacon and a glass bowl and jug would be useful so we could mix our scrambled eggs. The only bowls were cereal bowls which we used to mix everything. A mirror in the double room on first floor is needed as there is no where to dry or straighten your hair which on holiday is a must! However loads of cups; bowls and glasses which was great so that you could use the dishwasher and still have plenty to use. I would recommend as just a short walk to the centre and lots of lovely walks in the area. Lovely furnishings and lovely second lounge.

Great location, parking, walking distance, two streets away from a large Co-op Very surprised that there was no pillow protectors on the bedroom pillows, very strange especially post covid and gem spreading provention.

All the window could do with a jolly good clean outside, next door had there’s done on the Saturday when we arrived and assumed ours may be done too, so can I suggest a regular window cleaner. Lastly, the internet we didn’t have any connections for the first 4 days, (was the jubilee bank holiday)I finally contacted manor cottages, who sent somebody out within 15 mins, brilliant response! to look at the problem, the chap was unable to sort, seems that e portable router/boaster wasn’t present, so the next day at noon, chap arrived with a replacement router. In the day of internet and is not being able to access property until 6 which is very late, that the housekeeper should have checked this item was present, it did mar the holiday as two Birthdays in our party and family not able to FaceTime.
