What our customers say about their holidays

A really nice cottage with very good facilities, in a handy position.
...... The cottage grounds, the actual cottage and the facilities were great. The cottage is a good size (2 bed) and in a handy location to get out and about. It's peaceful and secure in a small quiet village location and is just a nice area to go for gentle walks. The owner was very pleasant and helpful and the cottage is situated in a good location for nearby Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth and Hereford as well as the motorway to go further afield to places like Gloucester. All of these are worth a visit. Also, Symmonds Yat viewpoint is nearby which is spectacular. For families with children, it's a short drive to Coleford to visit Beechenhurst (walking trails, kids play park, large cafe, climbing / highwire facilities, cycling tracks), Symmonds Yat for river cruises, Cannop ponds for wooded lake side walks, and the Dean Heritage Centre which has outside space, a museum and regular craft type events in the village of Lower Soudley. *The listing advertises fishing on site, but this is not accurate and the listing really needs changing. The listing says to speak with the owner to arrange fishing from their land, into Garron Brook, but this wasn't actually an option. I spoke with her and she advised fishing elsewhere and provided contact details of a local fly fishing club. The owner did not provide an option of fishing on their land at all. This is not what I expected and was disappointing. The town stretch of the river Wye in Ross-on-Wye can be fished on a day ticket scheme, with tickets purchased from the tackle shop on Ross-on-Wye High Street. However, it's busy (as you'd imagine) with canoeists, swimmers, dogs etc. Also, the bank is very steep in most places so there are only a handful of accessible swims. It certainly looks a great spot to wet a line though, so worth considering. Overall this was another lovely family holiday away in this part of the UK. Well worth a visit.

We had a very good week in this place.
The cottage is quite cosy downstairs, the beds are comfortable. It was a very warm week but we managed to keep the cottage sufficiently cool and we enjoyed having a garden at our disposition. For four adults the cottage would be a little tiny (e.g. the dining table is not so large) but for a family it was just right and the only thing we would recommend is to slightly expand the number of cups, cutlery etc. But the dishwasher was quick and quiet so this is a minor point. The owners live next to the cottage and are helpful but do not intrude. What we especially liked here is the area the cottage was situated in, which absolutely exceeded our expectations. We were planning to use the place mainly as a base to go to the Brecon Beacons, but actually we almost only stayed in the area which is at the same time very pretty, quite laid back seeming a bit overlooked by the mainstream, yet full of things to do; we walked in the beautiful and varied scenery (meandering rivers/towering cliffs/wild forests/good pubs), went cycling, canoeing and all of that within very easy reach of the cottage. When we left we concluded we could have easily stayed another week.

The cottage is remote, but that is clearly explained.
Some of the roads were difficult in the rain. It could have been cleaner. We found quite a few pots and pans were dirty and the rolling pin was covered in blue mould. It was toasty and warm downstairs but none of the radiators in the bedrooms appeared to be working, so upstairs was cold. We pulled the duvets off the double beds to have another layer on the twin beds.. As others have mentioned, the double beds are very uncomfortable. We slept in the twin beds after the first night, as even sleeping on a duvet, the beds were still too uncomfortable to get a good nightâs rest. There is a pay phone in the property, so take some change (it doesnât take the new £1 coins though). There is also a lack of information for appliances, central heating, when to put the rubbish out etc which would have been helpful. Overall we had a quiet stay.

It was a really lovely cosy cottage feeling in a rural location, great for walking (although beware of the hilly nature of the location) .
the lounge is a really nice place to chill out if the rain sets in. All facilities were of a good standard and necessary cooking equipment was provided. All in all a lovely stay and would definitely return. Great facility in the car charging point and will be more necessary in the future for all properties. A couple of points, the double bed in the larger bedroom was very lumpy and uncomfortable due I think to the age, my wife did not sleep well due to this. The other bedrooms seem to have more comfortable mattresses. Also beware of the some low door heights. The games room does not fit the expectation, because the floor is on a slope so itâs difficult to play table tennis and thatâs about the only game in there, itâs not part of the house but in the shed and is not very inviting.

We spent a lovely Christmas here.
Extended family from 2-66 years were all catered for comfortably with plenty of space for all. Inside the cottage, we loved the really comfortable lounge with plenty of seating and lovely dining room (with extra heater if needed). The kitchen was generally well equipped and good for Christmas cooking. Bedrooms all comfortable and cosy. For what we paid, everything was fine. Outside is a great table tennis table in an old barn ( with a fun slope to add to the game). The cottage is beautifully placed for access to Hay on Wye and nice walks. Only bits of minor feedback are that we needed a knife sharpener that worked and some kindling for the fire. If youâre over 6ft youâll also need to duck in the kitchen ! Would love to return at some point.
