What our customers say about their holidays

  • Alfred - Verified booking

Original cottage we booked in N Yorkshire became unavailable due to a leak and Sykes were very quick and helpful in finding a number of possible alternatives.

We chose Bryn Ffynnon in Wales. We found the area really enjoyable with excellent walks on the Welsh Coastal Path. There are some very good beaches close by such as Whistling Sands which has facilities and free parking if you are a NT member. Coastal towns vary but we enjoyed Porthmadog particularly and then Abersoch. Portmeirion of course worth a visit and there is some good walking in the wooded areas with views across to Porthmadog. Bryn Ffynnon was comfortable and very well equipped. The old part of the house has the bedrooms, bathrooms and snug and the extension is a fabulous and large kitchen, diner and family room with extensive views towards the sea though the hedgeline does impact a little. There is a good log burner in the snug. The central heating is controlled by Hive in the kitchen (it doesn't get a signal in the old house) and the kitchen is warmer than the rest of the house. We found it best to turn down the radiators in the kitchen and turn up the temperature on Hive to get the snug radiators to work well. Games room with pool, air hockey and darts provides fun and the hot tub relaxation. The hot tub lid is heavy and a bit awkward so be careful, an area for improvement. Also note you are expected to check the hot tub water yourself (not sure the test strips were in date and they only had three test tabs whereas the comparison chart on the tub showed four) and then add chemicals appropriately. You do need to read the instructions on the chemical tubs carefully. For anyone who finds stairs difficult the access from the drive to the house is flat and there is downstairs bedroom with ensuite. Wife says BEWARE no hair dryer.

I filled in an on line form as soon as I arrived.

I also rang the owner. The description on your website is incorrect. If it had been a correct description of the layout I would not have booked it. It says on the ground floor there’s a downstairs bedroom leading to the living room which leads to the kitchen, and there’s three bedrooms on the first floor. So I booked it because I’m disabled and use a wheelchair so everything was on the ground floor for me. But it wasn’t. The kitchen was upstairs so totally ruined Christmas for us as I only went upstairs when two people carried me which was unsafe. One of the elderly couples decided they couldn’t come when I told them about the layout of the property because they originally assumed they’d only have to go upstairs at bedtime. So the cost had to be divided between two parties instead of three, which we wouldn’t have paid if we’d known about it. Your website also states fuel provided so we didn’t take wood, it wasn’t provided so Christmas Eve had to go looking for wood. Contacted the owner who said he would have to contact Sykes about fuel being provided. Also said to him, as it’s Christmas we thought there’d be a Christmas tree up, his reply was I live in Chester, I’m useless (referring to himself). There wasn’t even a piece of tinsel. The downstairs wet room leaked onto the bedroom floor, and we couldn’t turn the heating off so had to go round turning radiators on and off.

We had an amazing stay in this beautiful house. All the home comforts you could ask for. The house is done to a very high standard and everywhere was very clean. The views are amazing from the upstairs balcony off the lounge. Very comfy sofas to chill on after a day exploring the area. Kitchen has plenty of utensil ect and nice to have 2 dishwashers to fill when there is a large group of you staying. Hot tub was lovely and clean and great having the extra towels to use for that. The games room is a brilliant addition, we had lots of fun in there. Lots of local walks with the costal path right behind the house, the views are amazing but it's not for the faint hearted!! Whistling sands is just down the road, about 25 minutes walk. Aberdaron was a lovely quaint little village with local store, chip shop, pub, ice cream shop and a lovely cafe with a decking area to sit on out side, dog friendly too. We went out of season so limited opening times for chip shop and ice cream shop closed, but the pub is open every day, this has a lovely decked area overlooking the beach, dog friendly too. Overall an amazing place to stay and we will be back. Thanks for a wonderful stay ❤️

We stayed here last weekend for my wife’s 50th birthday, along with the rest of the family. We will often go away as a big family group for birthdays etc but this has to be, by far, the best place we have stayed at. The house itself was immaculate and there was not a single thing we could fault. There was more than enough room for all of us to relax and play! The upstairs lounge was beautiful and the kitchen/dining room was fantastic. Both had amazing views over the countryside and ample room to sit and look out on. The hot tub was great and it was a nice touch to have separate towels for it rather than using them from the bathrooms. My favourite was probably the games room which ch again had ample room for all of us, even those not playing and just watching. The pictures on the websites do not do this place justice and the wife is already nagging me to see when we can go back!!!

What can I say this holiday home had the wow factor for us beautifully designed from the downstairs to upstairs they have thought of everything even a beautiful decorated christmas tree, and it was spotless. The gardens were great for us with having 2 dogs and the games room were used every night by the male adults. When we arrived one of the bedrooms was made into 2 singles even though we had told the letting agency twice that we had a change of circumstances and our mum who was due to be with us had passed away but thankgod for Ann the owner nothing was too much trouble and this was rectified not long after us being there. The owner was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble and just a call away. I would definitely recommend this property to all infact we were all sad to leave but will definitely be going back. Thankyou Ann & Glyn for your hospitality.
