What our customers say about their holidays

  • Barry - Verified booking

I’ll start with the positives about the cottage (Location, Peace, Hot Tub) The cottage is ideally placed at the north end of the island, which was great for exploring.

A previous review mentioned Church Bay being not so great and though there isn’t much there, when the tide is out the there is a great little beach, especially if you have a four-legged friend with you. The cottage itself is close to a main road but set far enough back for you not to really hear much from the traffic (which isn’t exactly heavy anyway). The view from the back of the cottage is great and the peace and quiet was amazing and welcomed too. The big bonus is the large hot tub, which we (me in particular) made great use off. It’s under cover so even sat out there in the rain one afternoon. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end I’m afraid because, just as a numerous previous reviews have mentioned and not taken on board, the cottage is dated, tired and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. The pictures on Sykes are a tad misleading as they were obviously taken some time ago starting when you pull onto the not so large drive (might be a problem if you have multiple cars) as most of it has been cut out now and the garage walled off the main part of the property. The drive was full of weeds, the front door damaged and filthy, the pretty window flower boxes empty! Windows all round were filthy too. Same with the rear enclosed area, again pictures no longer a reflection of how it looks now. The barbeque tray and grill missing, decking in need of clean to remove slippery algae, walls need repainted etc. Plant pots full of weeds, faded plastic plants and broken – not the pretty area in the photo Inside I’d say the cottage has most things you need but again so much is a dated mismatch of items, a lot of which need replaced especially the beds and the worst bedding and pillows I’ve experienced in a cottage (I’d advise taking your own pillows to be honest). The mattresses are uncomfortable, duvets pretty useless and as the instructions said we had to strip the beds we used before leaving we were privy to the ruddy great stain on one of them. The wall mounted fire didn’t work, as mentioned in another review but in all fairness the other heater did (we only used the lounge and kitchen one) I think that, reading the reviews the cottage was probably lovely some time ago but ongoing neglect had left it feeling drab and tired – A paint throughout out of season, tidy the front and back areas u[ and replace the beds and bedding and it would bring it back up to a decent standard. All in all, I wouldn’t stay there again but value for money, location, hot tub, peace and relaxation then maybe consider it but just be aware it is not as portrayed as per the photos and does need that care and attention to bring it back up to spec

Glan Towyn was the absolute perfect place for our 40th birthday celebration week.

The property itself is gorgeous and so uniquely decorated, with such thought and care and good quality, well maintained furniture. The kitchen/dining room has such beautiful views out of the massive windows, and we spent a lot of time on the balcony when we were in the house. It is a short walk to a quiet beach, and the provision of wetsuits and paddleboards, kayak and other beach and garden items was an absolute bonus as it meant we got to try things that we wouldn't have normally. The hot tub was lovely and clean, as was the sauna and bbq. It also has a charge point for EV vehicles which was a great bonus for my brother as he didn't have to hunt down somewhere to charge. We loved having a games room too - this was right up my families street. The White Eagle up the road was a great pub/place to eat. The guidance in the property was also really useful for looking into other places to go. There are really nice walks from the property too. Word of warning - the lane to the property is single track and tight. You get used to it, but be aware if you have a giant car (although we had 2 4WD and a small motorhome and were ok) In summary, it is a beautiful place and area that we didn't want to leave, and wish we could return to again and again.

I was disappointed when arriving that the photo did not reflect the true size of the properties frontage,(was much smaller than expected, looks a lot larger in photo).

Had problems with accessing the key safe, would buy a new one if mine. The cleanliness was not as good as expected, the ingress of woodlice of all sizes on a daily basis was off putting as was finding dead carcasses of same in all rooms downstairs which shouldn't have been there if a thorough cleaning had taken place. The divan bed downstairs was not connected together and would come apart at the slightest touch and reveal that cleaning of underneath had not taken place for quite some time. The mattress of the divan bed downstairs was very hard(like sleeping on a plank). We opted to use just the lower floor because of the location of the bathroom. The heating instructions for use was very misleading,it mentions the main control being adjacent to the family bathroom upstairs, took some time to understand how to use the radiators.(No instructions for these). Our pets biscuits were in a bowl in the kitchen and these were coated one morning with slug or snail slime as was the cloth it stood on,could not find the culprit but there was a large gap in the corner where the kick boards should meet. Sorry if my comments seem harsh and negative, but I think the property owners should be made aware of these failings.

    Glan Towyn is amazing!

We spent a fantastic long weekend with a group of friends at the house. The owners have created a modern, contemporary but also a traditional luxury home. It really is amazing in real life! Upon arrival were we overwhelmed with Glan Towyn and quickly felt relaxed and so at home there. The kitchen wanted for nothing and the views from both balconies in the daylight are stunning. The house is decorated in William Morris furnishings which we are now all in love with. It is literally 2 minutes walk to the beach and 5 minutes to the White Eagle pub. For a winter or summer destination Glan Towyn really does tick all the boxes for all generations. We walked the coastal path to Treaddur Bay and the scenery is breathtaking. The owners have created a holiday haven. We all enjoyed the game’s room, the sauna and hot tub. All bedrooms are super luxurious and with two fantastic lounges plus a snug there is always a quiet place to sit and relax by the log burners. We really cannot fault Glan Towyn and would love to return there year and year. Thank you to the Nikols family for thinking of everything that really does make a holiday perfect! An amazing gem in beautiful Rhoscolyn.

Glan Towyn is an amazing house set in an amazing location just a stones-throw from the beach.

The owners have thought of just about everything to make the holiday as enjoyable as possible. It takes something pretty special to excite teenagers but the kids in our group just wandered around the house shouting 'look at this' to just about everything. The games room became their sanctuary, playing pool, table tennis and darts. The rest of the house is just as special, with everything you could think of on-hand. The kitchen/diner area is vast with amazing views in all directions leading onto two raised terraces allowing the outside to come inside, or vice versa. The sheds house paddleboards, wetsuits, a great barbeque that cooked a paella brilliantly and even a sauna. The hot tub was spotless and the water changed weekly. The owners and housekeeping staff really went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and we couldn't praise them enough. The downside of having such as special house on such a lovely cove is that we didn't get to explore Anglesey much. We will definitely go back to Glan Towen and for longer than a week so we can explore further afield. Congratulations to the owners for creating and sharing such an amazing place.
