What our customers say about their holidays

Just great!
The property was spotless, the interior design was simple and elegant, the living areas were spacious, and the view was just... wow! The owners were very nice too! :) The bedding could have been a bit more comfortable, as we sometimes felt the springs in the mattress. Nothing too serious though. Blackout curtains would also definitely be a plus. The washing machine and dryer were outside the house and it was not very practical, as we had no laundry basket (though I must admit we did not ask for one). I was also not aware (or maybe I forgot) that it was not free. However, I did appreciate the eco-friendliness of only having one washer and dryer for all the dwellings. I was aware of the fact that dogs were welcome, I unfortunately did not account for the fact that there are often carpeted floors in the UK, so my dad had a small allergic reaction due to that. The property is also a bit far from many places where we wanted to go, but in a way, it is also what makes it charming. You cannot park just outside the dwelling, which can be an advantage just as much as it can be an inconvenience, especially late at night, as there are no lights (not practical if you need to see where you're walking, but much welcome when you don't want to be woken up by lights in the middle of the night) All those "inconvenients" only represented like 1% of our experience, and we still appreciated the property very very much. We will definitely come again if we're ever in the area again, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone!

Stonehaven is my home town, I grew up there.
Sharon the owner makes for a good host, she values feedback and we found her very helpful. Beautiful cottage within former Steading quadrangle, surrounded on all sides by wide lawn perimeter then mixed woodland. Property well located for A90 access. Stonehaven itself is close by and affords a wide range of amenities including a Sea water outdoor swimming pool (Summer) the town also boasts a stunning natural harbour with two very good pubs both of which offer carefully and attractively presented meals, both also offer Real Ales. If you wish to relax and enjoy a few drinks with your meal then the local Taxi service is both efficient and friendly fare circa £5.60 each way. You may wish to visit the Internationally renowned and multi award winning Fish & Chip shop called "The Bay" which is owned by someone I have known since I was a boy, the Owner Calum is IMO a credit to Stonehaven and I am proud to call him my friend. Additionally an excellent Indian restaurant (near the town Square) Cafe's and further takeaways. For grocery shopping there is a good sized and well stocked Co-Op in town, a large Asda in Portlethen and a Sainsbury's and a further Asda at the Bridge of Dee in Aberdeen. All easily accessible. Banchory on Royal Deeside is approximately 30 minutes drive away and close by this you'll find Crathes Castle both well worth a visit. My home town would be a great place to base your holiday in North East Scotland and this lovely cottage will comfortably accommodate a family of five or five adults.

A really lovely cottage with incredible views over Loch Rannoch.
The loch shore itself is about 5 mins walk away (300 metres?) down a gravel driveway. The cottage is one of six located on a farm (dogs should be kept on a lead) and surrounded by fields where cows are kept. The cottages are all connected to each other so you can hear the people next door a bit, but it wasn't a problem. Out one side there is a small balcony with lovely views over the loch. Out the other side is a shared garden with picnic tables and a bbq area, also with lovely views over the loch. There are some great walks just a short drive away. We didn't find any (other than down to the Loch) directly from the farm that didn't involve going along the road. The cottage itself is comfortable - a good bed (we only used the double room), warm water (though poor water pressure - a feature of rural Scotland!), and a nice living space upstairs. The kitchen is fairly small, but all as described, and well equipped. You couldn't ask for a better location, be it for swimming in the loch or paddling on it, walking in the area, or just relaxing and staring at the view.

Very comfortable cottage. Only 3 of us so it seemed very, very spacious but it would be roomy even if there were 5 or 6 of you. Conservatory and large dining kitchen contributed to the feeling of space. Excellent shower. Washing machine and a washing hanger in back garden. Also an indoor collapsible hanger. Comfortable beds. Super quiet location on the farm but only a 3 minute drive to Dalbeattie. Lots of nice walking nearby. Kippford is a nice small coastal village. Dalbeattie is a nice town. Good cafe. Nice meal in the pub. The small but ''packed with stuff'' Dalbeattie museum is very interesting. Spent about 2 hours in it. What a nice area overall. Unspoilt, ''undiscovered''. Castle Douglas is a nice town and New Abbey a nice village with a very good cafe. Sadly Dalbeattie FC were not playing at home during our stay. I would have gone. Did go to Queen of the South vs. Alloa Athletic on the day of our arrival. A ''seven goal thriller''.

An excellent location and clean apartment with plenty of space for up to four people.
The appliances were good and the internet signal was strong. The parking is good even for a large car or SUV. Easy to walk into town where there are some really nice restaurants and there is usually some event going on in Moffat. On the downside we arrived to find a sink with a plug jammed and a light not working which we reported to Sykes since there was no other contact listed. We were assured the owner would fix these but heard nothing from them. The heating had a message that it was to be left set at a certain temperature and not adjusted. In fact the thermostats were at different temperatures and the place remained cold all week. The stairwell is uninviting and the maintenance on this part of the building is very poor. However, if you want somewhere convenient to explore southern Scotland then give this place a chance and hopefully maintenance and communication issues will be addressed.
