  Slightly disappointing experience and below usual Rural Retreats standards. Pretty place and location, but the photos advertising the property are at best out of date and at worse misleading. (The saplings in the garden are now quite substantial fruit trees and so there's not much open lawn. I had to remove a dog poo from the garden, which was very disappointing as we were holidaying with a two year old. Trees are now also blocking a lot of the view from the back of the property. Back cushions are completely missing from the sofa by the front door!) Property was well cleaned, but huge hanging cobwebs in the bathroom and bedrooms. I requested a brush from the owner to do it myself but didn't appreciate his comment telling me that the reason behind their presence was due to "a rural situation". (I come from a family of farmers and we’ve always managed ok. The owner apologized several times afterwards however which was helpful to a point.) Top of bedroom wardrobe and top of utility cupboard covered in dust and dirt. The property really needs painting as walls are scuffed, the kitchen knives are quite blunt and utensils not great. All that said, it is a lovely building where you can relax and socialize very easily. We feel that it should be priced lower as from our experience there are much nicer places available in that category.

  Lovely place to stay. Very comfortable for two of us plus one small dog. The barn itself was clean and tidy, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The welcome hamper was generous, and the owners (who live next door) were friendly and helpful. The garden is spacious with great views. It's lovely sitting on the decking looking down over the nearby pool. It is pretty securely fenced for a dog, although our border terrier pup (8kg) found a couple of gaps into the garden of the owner next door. The gaps were swiftly fixed by the owner, but a small and determined dog needs to be kept an eye on. Larger and/or more relaxed dogs would be fine, and it didn't stop us or our dog enjoying using the garden. The surroundings are scenic. Both the seaside and the lakes are within driving distance, and there are pleasant walks available from the barn itself.

  Fabulous barn conversion in a great location. Very rural but wonderful for our mini moon with our almost 2 year old. All in one level so great for little ones running around, very clean and beautifully done. A really light and airy space which felt huge when inside. Shiela couldn’t have been more helpful checking out timetables of a couple of activities we were interested in. Just a few minutes drive from Ulverston and 15 mins to Lakeside to get the boat to Windermere. Coniston Water 30 Nin drive and Bardsea Beach around 15 mins. We had a fabulous time at Fellside Barn, great location for that part of the Laks District.

  We were two couples staying at Fellside Barn. We absolutely loved it! The facilities were fabulous and we had access to everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There was room to relax without feeling like we were crowded and the garden setting is magnificent. We love the location of the home. We loved being away from the busyness of towns and cities and felt like we really were treating to an oasis after the end of days exploring the surroundings. The walks around the property are amazing and our hosts were friendly and caring. Thank you so much for a wonderful, memorable stay.

  The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. It had everything you could need. The owners were very friendly and very helpful. The only downside was the garden was not fully enclosed so not suitable for our dog, however we did get to use the neighbouring field so our dog got a good run in there. The neighbouring field however is not always available as the local farmer does graze his sheep in it on occasions. Would definitely go back to Fellside Barn as we are now aware that the garden is not enclosed so are more prepared for this.
