The delightful village of Glasson, also known as the Village of the Roses, rests the quaint countryside of County Westmeath near its border to County Roscommon. The village's Irish name is Glasán, meaning "small stream" and the village lives up to this name with a brook weaving through its centre to the renowned Lough Ree Lake. Glasson was originally built as an estate to serve the Temple-Harris family art Waterston House, the remains of the building can be found to the south of the village. The village features a selection of amenities for holiday-goers, including: the olde world pub of Grogans, a bar/restaurant, a well-stocked convenience store, butchers and an independent crafts shop. After making the most of the picturesque village, venture to Wineport with its pretty marinas and Killinure Island. Holidaymakers can enjoy visiting the banks of Lough Ree for a day packed with lakeside activities, from its glorious Portlick Castle and its Millenium Forest, to sailing through the waters to Hare Island and Inchmore. The bustling town of Athlone isn't far with the River Shannon; an afternoon can be spent sailing through the river's waters on a pleasure boat or simply walking alongside, before venturing into the town's selection of independent shops, eateries and historic attractions. Glasson additionally provides visitors with access to the peaceful, inland villages of Rosemount and Ballymore; both making for idyllic days out for the family. Further afield is the town of Castletown Geoghegan that is situated near Lough Ennell and its Lilliput Adventure Centre; continue east to find the county town of Mullingar where visitors can find a selection of green spaces, family-friendly activities and lakes in and around the thriving town.

The house is fabulous! We found the notes very helpful and welcoming, the house was spotless and, of course, it has an amazing setting. We felt like guests in someoneâs home. We met Sinead when we arrived and she was really friendly and helpful - checking in with us the next day about how we were settling in.
