Just a few miles away is the ancient market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age fort, it is also the highest town in the Cotswolds. The town has been hosting markets and fairs since the 12th century, and today you'll find craft fairs, a monthly Farmers' market and a bi-annual Gypsy Horse Fair. This picturesque town is surrounded by Cotswold stone townhouses, as well as antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, incredible restaurants and a cricket museum. Slightly further afield brings you to Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds', with the River Windrush running through its centre, it is an idyllic location for an afternoon's stroll, with Greystones Farm Nature Reserve, Salmonsbury Meadows SSSI and Birdland Park & Gardens providing wonderful opportunities to admire wildlife and nature. Also within short driving distance is the spa town of Cheltenham, famous for its horse racing, the university city of Oxford and the home of Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon. Moreton-in-Marsh lies on the Fosse Way Roman Road in the Cotswolds. The town boasts a lot of fantastic 18th century architecture, home to traditional inns, serving real ales and home-cooked food, tea rooms, restaurants and unique shops. It has a own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the town, while the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all run close by.
