About this property

Ashbourne 8.4 miles. Set in Boylestone, near the market town of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, is this single-storey, rustic dwelling, High Grounds Shepherd's Hut. Enjoying far-reaching views of the Derbyshire countryside, nestled in a rural setting on a working farm, whilst homing a wood-fired hot tub, private outdoor seating area, and a studio-layout, the shepherds hut invites a couple, perfect for a romantic break. As the sun rises, enjoy a coffee out on the patio area, before returning inside to prepare breakfast and get ready for a day of activities. After exploring the surrounding villages and a wealth of nature-filled attractions, retire to your abode, freshen up in the contemporary shower room, light the woodburning stove, and soak in the hot tub, before retreating to the plush double bedroom, cosily situated. If you can tear yourself away from your dwelling, visit Hatton, a neighbouring village, to enjoy a pub lunch at The Tavern, fresh fish and chips from the chip shop or Indian Cuisine before stocking up on the essentials at the nearby Co-op and Nisa. The family farm offers footpaths that lead to nearby villages and pubs to stop off and rest on your journey. To dine out, there is The Lighthouse Restaurant, which can be found in the village of Boylestone and The Holly Bush in Church Broughton. The property is on the edge of the market town of Ashbourne, which hosts a variety of shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants to fuel your day of excursions. Also within easy reach is the unique landscape of the Peak District National Park, Carsington Water for a peaceful stroll and, Dovedale and Tissington Trail, ideal for a bike ride. There is also the charming towns of Matlock and Bakewell for a day out and Chatsworth House for a step back in time. Visit the surrounding villages of Tutbury, home to an ancient castle and a great selection of restaurants to treat yourselves and the village of Sudbury, which also boasts a castle with a courtyard and café. You can tee up at Church Broughton or get dressed up to the nines with a trip to the town of Uttoxeter, with its popular racecourse. If you're looking for more of a thrill-seeking or immersive activity, Alton Towers is a short car journey away, featuring over 40 different rides and attractions, Sharkbait Reef is also a must, with over 300 unique species to observe, whilst Weaver Hills is a recommended walking route for those feeling energetic. Heading towards the county, enjoy tours on Derby Museum and Art Gallery, opt for a guided tour around The Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill, displaying a history-rich exhibition of innovation, or discover Oakwood/Chaddesden Wood Local Nature Reserve and its local wildlife, set over 23-acres. Experience the best of Derbyshire at High Grounds Shepherd's Hut.

Ashbourne, which is located at the southernmost point of the Peak District, is the epitome of an English market town, complete with a market place with stalls, an odd street layout, winding cobblestone lanes, coaching inns, and almshouses. The town was a posh social hub during its heyday in the 18th century, and many lovely Georgian structures from this time period still stand today. The town is still known as something of a sanctuary for antique hunters today and still has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants and inns, but don't expect a deal! The Dove and Manifold Valleys are nearby for those who prefer more outdoor activities, while Alton Towers, with its thrilling collection of thrills and attractions, is only a short drive away for thrill seekers.

The hot tub was warmed for our arrival, Prosecco and milk chilled in the fridge and homemade brownies all ready for us to indulge in! The location was perfect, I felt safe, nice and private (our only neighbours were the cows!). The facilities were amazing from the hot tub to the log burner with plenty of fuel provided for these. The views were incredibly and the bed was SO comfortable. There was plenty of blankets and heaters so you are never cold and the dressing gowns for the hot tub were a nice touch. I would 100% stay here again!

Having wood and Kindle was a nice touch and both the fire and hot tub lit very easily. My wife really appreciated the welcome surprise of flowers, balloons and of course bubbly. The hut was perfect. Great surrounding pubs for lunch and a great night out in Ashbourne. Thank you Paul Nicholas

The property is as fabulous as it looks and the setting has lovely views and is tranquil and peaceful, a real escape. It is beautifully furnished with lots of attention to detail to make it a home from home and really well equipped. Lots of helpful information before the stay and at the hut and the communication with the owner was brilliant, nothing too much trouble. Can’t recommend highly enough!
