Bleaberry Cottage is praised for its prime location, ideal for exploring the Lakes and enjoying local amenities. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, cosy warmth, and well-equipped kitchen. The enclosed garden is a hit with dog owners, though some mention it could be more secure. Comfort levels are generally high, despite comments about the double bed and seating. The cottage's charm and character shine through, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
The cottage receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews noting it as extremely clean and well-maintained. A few isolated comments about a 'doggy' smell and a dirty garden building slightly affect the score.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to local shops, pubs, and scenic walks, making it an ideal base for exploring the Lakes. The proximity to amenities and natural beauty contribute to a high score.
Comfort is generally well-regarded, with the cottage described as cosy and warm. However, several guests mention the double bed being uncomfortable and suggest improvements to seating, which impacts the score.
Facilities are deemed adequate, with a well-equipped kitchen and secure garden. However, maintenance issues like garden security for dogs, a broken gate, and suggestions for an outside tap and better lighting in the kitchen affect the score.
While some guests mention the lack of a welcome pack and suggest it would be a nice addition, there is not enough consistent information on thoughtful touches or gifts to accurately score this category.
This well-presented cottage sits within the quaint village of Glenridding on the Southern shores of Ullswater. Boasting a light and airy feel, Bleaberry Cottage is a fine choice for families seeking a quiet location within the lakes while still being within easy reach of many popular towns and villages. Step inside the kitchen/diner where a well-equipped selection of appliances will assist in the preparation of home-cooking, while the dining table offers a place for all to come together and toast to a lovely Lake District break. Carry the conversation into the sitting room, where a multi-fuel burning stove and two leather sofas make it a welcoming and homely place to stay all year round. The cottage has two bedrooms upstairs, with a double to the rear and a twin to the front, serviced by a bathroom with bath and shower over. Step outside and get some fresh air in the garden patio, with room to sit or eat in the end of the garden in the sun house. The area is a hill walkers’ dream with stunning routes up Helvellyn from the door, or take a walk around the shores of Ullswater, arguably the Lake District’s most beautiful lake, with opportunity to hire a boat out on the water. In Glenridding there is a mini supermarket which is handy for grabbing any essentials, while a small choice of pubs and restaurants will satisfy if you fancy a night off cooking. The beautiful village of Grasmere, which was once home to William Wordsworth, is a fabulous choice for a day out, as are the popular towns of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere, which are full of attractions for all the family. With all the facilities you’ll need for a relaxing break, consider Bleaberry Cottage for your next Lake District escape.
The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle (The Windsor of the North), Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

we are both in our 80's and not as mobile as we use to be and found difficulty using them.

It was perfect for walking while being convenient for local shops and places to eat out. The kitchen was well equipped, the Wi-Fi was reliable and the garden nice to sit out in when it wasn't raining. Our only complaint is that there should have been a non-slip bath mat in the bath to make using the shower safe. It would have been nice to have some hand soap and a towel in the kitchen. The stairs are very steep and there is a step between every room which it would be useful to mention in the description.

The cottage had everything you could need. Plus the weather was gorgeous.
