Guests say

Bield How in Ambleside is praised for its excellent location, comfortable king bed, and spaciousness, making it a well-loved base for exploring the Lake District. Guests appreciate the property's views, off-road parking, and the warmth provided by the AGA cooker. However, some guests feel the property could benefit from updates, particularly in the kitchen, and improved cleanliness in certain areas.

Guests have noted issues with cleanliness, including bathroom drains, cobwebs, and unclean crockery. However, some found the property clean and comfortable, indicating inconsistency in cleaning standards.

The property's location is highly commended for its proximity to Ambleside, access to local amenities, and as a starting point for walks, contributing to a positive experience.

The comfort of the property is generally well-regarded, with a comfortable king bed and spacious rooms. However, some guests found the heat from the AGA cooker excessive, and the sofas and mattresses in need of replacement.

Facilities such as the AGA cooker and showers are appreciated, but there are reports of outdated kitchen appliances, non-working TV remotes, and maintenance issues like dripping taps and sticky doors.

There is insufficient information regarding the presence of thoughtful gestures such as gifts, and therefore, a score cannot be provided. Guests should note that such amenities are not guaranteed.

About this property

Resting in an elevated position equally between Lake Windermere and the centre of Ambleside village, with fine views to the fells around, is this detached holiday home, Bield How. Tastefully furnished and decorated in a contemporary style while boasting an excellent position within the Lake District National Park, Bield How is the perfect base for a family in pursuit of an adventure-filled holiday. Head through the door at the side of the property into the hallway where you can hang coats and leave boots before finding the sitting room. After a day of traversing the fells, look forward to putting your feet up whilst catching up on your favourite shows, with the added bonus of a living flame gas fire to keep you toasty. Discover the light and airy kitchen/diner for all your culinary essentials, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and a handy washer/dryer if your trails take off on a muddier route. As the evening draws to a close, catch your rest in the master bedroom, kitted out with a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with bath and shower over, while the twin room serves perfectly for children and benefits from an en-suite shower room. Both bedrooms have wall-mounted flat screen TVs and fitted cupboards for storing your personal belongings. The patio area to the front of the house offers you a tranquil spot to enjoy a drink whilst admiring views of the fell, plus there is also off-road parking for one car on the shared driveway. Positioned close to the Waterhead district of Ambleside, you are not far from the pier which provides regular cruises across the lake, offering you a chance to see the beauty of the area with stop-offs at Bowness-on-Windermere and Lakeside. Get to know your surroundings by taking a walk into the town centre where you will be spoilt for choice by the quaint selection of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants and even an independent cinema. Venture out of Ambleside and visit Wray Castle for the day, which has a huge, largely undiscovered gravel beach of its own, and was Beatrix Potter’s first Lakeland holiday home at the age of 16. With attractions to suit all ages, a stay at Bield How promises to be an adventure at any time of the year.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

It was great to be in the center of town and have off street parking, ample space for our large 4x4. The views from the front of the bungalow are great. We spent many an afternoon having a brew on the patio before tea. The facilities inside are great. We were a party of 3 adults and had plenty of room. The only point i'd like to raise, it's not a big deal, was that the oven trays could do with being replaced.

It is a great base location with off road parking, easy access to plenty of walks and all that Ambleside has to offer. Sadly the Aga was not working this time, due to it needing some maintenance. Additionally, we did find that some of the crockery and cutlery was not clean and everything had to be washed before use. We do however hope to return again in the future.
