Guests say

The Old Barn in Ambleside is praised for its spaciousness, cleanliness, and superb location, with easy access to local attractions and beautiful grounds. Guests appreciate the property's generous proportions and the peaceful environment it offers. While some guests suggest improvements in comfort and facilities, the overall experience is seen as enjoyable and the property is recommended for its potential to provide a delightful stay.

The property generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with several guests noting it as clean and comfortable. However, some guests mention areas that could benefit from deeper cleaning or attention, slightly affecting the overall perception.

The location is consistently lauded for its convenience and beauty, with easy access to the Lake District's attractions and peaceful surroundings. It is considered a highlight and a strong point of the property.

Comfort receives mixed reviews. While the property is found to be spacious and generally comfortable, several guests note that the beds are firm and suggest the need for better mattresses or toppers, which impacts the comfort score.

Facilities are adequate but several guests suggest improvements, such as updating kitchen utensils, addressing maintenance issues, and replacing worn furniture. These points indicate room for enhancement in the facilities and maintenance category.

There is insufficient information to score thoughtfulness accurately. While a welcome basket is mentioned as a nice potential addition, it is not a consistent theme across the reviews, and there are no other references to gifts or extra thoughtful touches that would influence this score.

About this property

A fantastic barn conversion which is part of a converted coach house and stables, around two miles from Ambleside and just a two minute stroll from Brockhole - the National Park Visitor Centre on the shores of Lake Windermere. The property is set in beautiful landscaped gardens, it has a tranquil and secluded feel, but without compromising on convenience and nestled amongst a group of traditional Lakeland buildings that once belonged to the first Earl of Lonsdale during the late 18th Century. The Old Barn’s interior is light and airy, with a living and dining space that looks out onto the gardens and the lake. Three spacious bedrooms make every guest feel special. Plus, there is a beautiful patio, the perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy al fresco living in harmony with the visiting wild deer.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

It was perfect for my 2 sisters and I to have a double room each. The lounge was very comfy and we enjoyed the kitchen and outside space. The items in the kitchen cupboards would benefit from being cleaned, which has also been mentioned on other previous reviews, but it was fine for us to wash what we needed.

waste discharge on bathroom sink was broken -unusable. unwashed plates and cups found in cupboards. Difficulty in use of electric oven. TV broke down during stay Cottage felt tired attention to kitchen and plumbing required. Lakelovers customer care is a joke - prepare to be ignored.

Mostly very good. However in the front upstairs bathroom the basin sink is not draining properly. Also the outer kitchen door was sticking in damp weather.
