Guests say

Wansfell is a well-appreciated cottage in Ambleside, praised for its great location, ample parking, and wildlife sightings. Guests enjoy the spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and the private, peaceful setting. The property's proximity to the town centre and lake is a highlight, with some thoughtful touches like toiletries and tea appreciated by visitors.

The property generally maintains good cleanliness, with well-laundered linens and tidy rooms. However, some guests noted areas needing attention, such as windows, kitchen appliances, and outdoor PVC. The presence of cobwebs and a musty smell in towels were mentioned, indicating room for improvement.

The location is highly regarded, offering a secluded feel amidst wildlife while being conveniently close to Ambleside's centre and the lake. The quiet setting and easy access to local attractions contribute to its high rating.

Guests find the property comfortable, with spacious rooms and comfy beds. However, some guests mentioned saggy sofas and a cold second bedroom, suggesting that while comfort is generally good, there are aspects that could be enhanced.

The property is equipped with essentials and extras like games and DVDs, but guests have reported issues with appliances and maintenance needs. The oven, microwave, and heating system were points of concern, alongside some minor repairs needed.

Visitors appreciate the thoughtful touches such as complimentary toiletries and a selection of entertainment options. While these gestures are well-received, it's important to note that such amenities may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

This stylish ground floor apartment is finished to a lovely standard and is surrounded by fields with views of the Lakeland fells. Wansfell, which was previously the Borrans Park Hotel, is a great choice for for four people wishing to explore this wonderful part of Cumbria. Located up a private drive in a peaceful position, you enter through the private entrance into a large dining area with an oak dining table and four chairs, perfect for those formal mealtime moments with one another. Adjacent is the fitted kitchen, equipped with all the essentials including an electric oven and gas hob, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and an assortment of utensils and crockery needed for a short break. Head into the spacious sitting room to put your feet up, with two plush sofas and a TV with Xbox for entertainment, plus the wall-mounted electric fire will come in handy during those colder months. The main bedroom has a luxurious feel with a king-size oak bed and walk-in wardrobe with a wall mounted 19 inch LCD TV, complemented by the fully tiled en-suite bathroom which includes a large cubical shower. In the second bedroom there is a zip/link bed which can be either a super king-size or a twin which also offers a contemporary en-suite bathroom with bath and shower over, so you can decide best how to prepare for the day. Grab your refreshing beverage of choice and take a seat in the patio garden, including a table and four chairs for outside dining and two benches for relaxing and watching the sun go down after a tough day on the fells. There are plenty of walks from the door including Todd Craig and the Fairfield Horseshoe, along with cruises on the lake, visits to the cinema and mini golf. Take a night off cooking and book a table at one of the fine restaurants or pubs in Ambleside, including a modern British Michelin starred restaurant, The Old Stamp House, which is houses in the former office of William Wordsworth. At any time of year, a cruise from Waterhead up Lake Windermere on the Windermere Steamer is a beautiful way to appreciate the magnificent landscape. Stop off at Bowness-on-Windermere or continue down to Lakeside and visit the Lakes Aquaruim. A delightful base for a Lake District escape of any kind.

Ambleside rests at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do in and around the area, from boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere to shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also known for its annual rushbearing ceremony along with “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District, now the National Trust Information Centre.

My only comments would be that the mattress in the “shower bedroom” is showing its age and is not especially comfortable. Though there were four televisions they were all freeview system. If just the one in the lounge had been “Sky” it would have made a far better evening experience. However these are minor points compared to the overall satisfaction with the facilities offered.

Very quiet, large and comfortable apartment with everything you need for a relaxing stay. My only criticism was the bed was hard and uncomfortable for me, a thick mattress topper may help this and some of the towels were musty. But these were only minor things and we would definitely recommend this accommodation, we had a great stay.

The property is in a quite location, although only a short walk to the centre of Ambleside. Wansfell was exactly as described by Heart of the Lakes and the regular visits from deer and a large variety of birds was an added bonus. We would definitely recommend Wansfell to friends and family.
