About this property

The Old Coach House is simply gorgeous. Set in the charming village of Troutbeck with its country pub and village store, this statement property would be hard to beat. The views are breath-taking and the house itself, the epitome of luxury and style.

The ideal place to share a celebration, or simply enjoy a special break, The Old Coach House will wow all your guests. The main entrance hall leads to the first of two reception rooms. Described as the drawing room, with open fire and views of the garden, this a very special place to rest and relax. Moving on to the open plan kitchen and dining room with slate worktops (mined locally from Coniston Old Man), guests are blown away by the feeling of light and space. Cooking is a joy in a setting like this one. French doors lead from the kitchen into the gorgeous garden, revealing mountains and more of the fabulous views. A second reception room can be found on the ground floor, as well as a useful cloakroom with basin and wc.

Upstairs are three splendid double rooms, each with a king size bed, and a spacious twin. The master room comes with luxury en-suite bathroom featuring a romantic double ended bath and bay window…champagne please! One of the king size beds can be made up as two single beds when arranged in advance. There is also a family bathroom, also with a double ended bath, and a wet room with amazing power shower. This floor is also home to the study, a quiet space but still with those spectacular views.

Outside the gardens are a suntrap, the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine or morning coffee. Garden furniture is supplied from Easter to October half term. There is parking for four cars, ideal for when some of your group want to make the short drive to the lively villages of Ambleside or Windermere. The Old Coach House with its secluded location, is a glorious retreat with walks, water sports, restaurants, independent shops, museums, galleries, cruises and cinemas on its doorstop.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. The house is very spacious, well equipped and well maintained. The beds are extremely comfortable, which we especially appreciated after walking on the fells. We had a great week's holiday here, and were sorry to leave it when it was time to return home!

Very comfortable and spacious. Fabulous views from all the bedrooms . The house is very homely and welcoming . May I suggest a television in the living room as the ‘playroom’ feels like a playroom and not a particularly appealing place to spend an evening. Also the sofas in the living room aren’t very comfortable and are a bit tired looking . Also it would be helpful if there was a house information folder . There was only medical access info and rubbish collection. Didn’t know where the recycling went. Other than these issues we had a really good week. And the sun shone !
