You will be spoilt for choice when heading out, with numerous footpaths, bridleways, and cycling routes available from the doorstep of the cottage; why not venture out to Welney Wash Reserve to spend an afternoon feeding the majestic swans, perfect if you are traveling with younger guests. A scenic car journey will take you to the bustling town of King's Lynn, home to an array of historic architecture and a picturesque waterfront and seaport. The town boasts an abundance of shops, pubs, and restaurants to fuel your excursions, along with the fascinating Lynn Museum and Stories of Lynn Museum so you can brush up on your history. Heading in the opposite direction, you will come to the city of Ely, which boasts a grand cathedral and a stunning waterside area, perfect for enjoying a riverside lunch with spectacular views. From Downham Market, a regular train runs into the picturesque city of Cambridge, famous for its esteemed university and ancient history and architecture. The rural Saxon market town of Downham Market is one of the oldest in Norfolk, and is known locally as the gateway to the Fens, renowned for its network of waterways. Downham Market boasts an attractive black and white clock tower in its main square, and hosts a weekly outdoor market on Fridays and Saturdays selling mostly local produce, along with an additional fortnightly Saturday collectables and craft market. On the fringe of the town is the mainline railway station with links to Ely, Cambridge, King's Cross London and King's Lynn. Discover the great outdoors along the Fen Rivers Way footpaths enjoying distinctive Fens landscape rich in history and wildlife, leading to the River Great Ouse with dramatic open sky and the flood banks that protect the low lying Fens.
