Captains Retreat in Christchurch receives high praise for its welcoming atmosphere, prime location, and comfortable amenities. Guests appreciate the property's proximity to local attractions and natural beauty, as well as the convenience for both car and public transport users. The addition of a garden room and the presence of thoughtful touches enhance the stay, despite some concerns about ongoing construction and minor maintenance issues.
The property is generally described as clean and tidy, with several guests noting its welcoming presentation. However, there are mentions of stained carpets and a blocked toilet, suggesting occasional lapses in cleanliness that prevent a perfect score.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to the town centre, historical sites, and natural landscapes. Its proximity to public transport and the peacefulness of the area, despite temporary construction work, contribute to its high rating.
Guests find the beds and seating very comfortable, and the presence of two ensuite bathrooms is frequently appreciated. The addition of a garden room adds to the comfort, although there are some comments about the size of the beds and firmness of the mattresses.
The cottage is well-equipped with a user-friendly kitchen, outdoor furniture, and a new decking area. However, there are reports of a small TV, poor Wi-Fi, and issues with bathroom fixtures, which suggest room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.
While many reviews express satisfaction with the property's amenities and the owner's helpfulness, there is no specific mention of gifts or special thoughtful gestures that would warrant a score in this category.
A tastefully furnished and well-equipped, mid-terrace holiday home, tucked away in a quiet residential cul-de-sac, a short stroll from the quayside in the lovely, historic Dorset town of Christchurch. This charming cottage is an ideal base for families or friends with the Dorset coast within easy reach, as is the beautiful New Forest National Park. Once you enter this lovely cottage you will find a pleasant and well-equipped kitchen/diner that has everything you need to create tasty treats for your group, and from here theres a door leading out into a small, enclosed decked garden, which provides a great place to sit out with your morning coffee and plan the days activities. Also on the ground floor is a cosy sitting room with electric fire, and theres the convenience of a basin and WC on this floor too. Upstairs, both bedrooms boast en-suite facilities, so theres no queuing for the bathroom in the morning! To the front theres allocated parking so you can leave your car all day and wander the short distance into the town centre and treat yourselves to a meal and a tipple at any one of the numerous quality pubs and restaurants. Enjoy exploring the old castle ruins and stunning priory, or just relax with an ice cream in the riverside park, where often bands play, and if you fancy a boat trip then take one of the regular ferries that gently chug their way up the River Stour. Take the short Wick Ferry by the Captains Club Hotel and discover a lovely pathed walk through fields towards the famous Hengistbury Head, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which boasts stunning coastal views. Within reach are the golden sands of Mudeford and all the attractions of the vibrant seaside resort of Bournemouth. This really is a superb Dorset holiday home to be enjoyed all year round.

We love the location of Captains retreat, so handy for the river with it's marina and swans and for strolls into town. The house itself, is spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. A third visit is definitely on the cards.

Always a wonderful holiday because the accommodation is perfect for us. Very clean , everything there that you could want, well positioned for walks along river or into town. Buses on High Street take you as far as Poole or Lymington, wonderful if you don't have a car. Highly recommend this property.

The house is very well equipped and the parking out the front is a bonus. It's very close to the river and a short walk into the town. We really enjoyed our stay.
