Last Minute Cottages in Bristol

Bristol is an exciting, vibrant city that's small enough to quickly gather your bearings and big enough to have some major attractions. With a refurbished city centre that is easy to explore on foot and a harbourside filled with things to do, Bristol is a great place to visit for a last-minute getaway with family or friends.

Reasons for Staying in Bristol

Bristol's Main Attractions

Bristol is a city immersed in history, art and culture. With unique attractions like Brunel's SS Great Britain, the world's first great ocean liner is open to explore with your family or get transported to a colourful underwater world and see the fantastic fish at Bristol Aquarium .

The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery combines an eclectic art collection with archaeological artefacts and wonders of natural history in the heart of the city, keeping post-impressionists and palaeontologists of all ages entertained.

The Harbourside development is lined with bars, restaurants and art spaces like M-Shed and Watershed, an independent film cinema and media centre.

One thing you can't miss in Bristol is a guided tour of Bristol's street art. Unlike most towns and cities, the majority of the street art in Bristol is world-class, with artists like Banksy leading the movement. The city supports its street artists; if you go on a tour, you will see big, small and building-sized pieces of incredible art.

You can also treat yourself to some retail therapy at Cabot Circus shopping centre, where you'll find various chains, independent shops and restaurants, as well as entertainment like a cinema and mini golf. These are just a few of Bristol's main attractions. Half the fun of Bristol is discovering somewhere new to fall in love with.

Where to Stay in Bristol

The Georgian houses and winding streets of Clifton are really a sight to see. With cafes and shops spilling out into the street, Clifton is the perfect place to while away the time. Clifton, Clifton East and Tyndals Park are great if you want to experience the buzz of Bristol and only be a short walk from the centre. If you want to stay south of the river, Bedminster has some beautiful old buildings, independent shops, and cafes. With Last Minute Cottages, you'll get the best deal wherever you stay, thanks to our best price guarantee, so relax and enjoy your last-minute holiday with your family or friends.

Places to Visit Near Bristol

Wiltshire has some stunning towns and villages in its rolling hills and Cranborne AONB.

Somerset has some of the finest countryside in the country, not forgetting to mention its gorgeous coastline.

Dorset is a beautiful part of the country and an excellent place for a beach holiday after Bristol.

Gloucestershire is a splendid day out from Bristol, with fantastic towns and cities like Gloucester and Cheltenham.

What our customers say about their holidays

Had a lovely bank holiday weekend stay with my family of 10 at the Old Stables.

( 6 adults & 4 Children) The conservatory has wonderful views and the property was warm and welcoming. 3 beautifully appointed upstairs bedrooms all with en-suit bathrooms . The ground floor didn't quite work for us as there is a room with bunk beds and a pull out sofa in the lounge. As some of the children were young they needed/wanted to be closer to their parents so we had adults using the sofa bed and bunks. That said, there were 10 of us and feel it would be perfect for 3 couples upstairs and older children on the ground floor. The Kitchen was very well equipped with everything and I mean everything you could think of... it has a 'shared' laundry room and other than not finding a broom , has everything available to use. I think my only negative was, there is a separate attached East Wing. This became occupied on our second day. There are no boundaries set and it was a little uncomfortable when the people there entered through the shared laundry room and sat on the garden chairs directly outside the stables. Looks like we are sharing a garden, they said !.........I couldn't say either way as I didn't know either. The pool house is warm and the water is too, great for young children . There are towels to use and although a little dated, was a great hit with the children. To get to the pool house, you need to go out through the garden and this needs better signage or even ' a sign' Overall, a lovely place to stay but maybe needs an easier booking system of pool sessions and some clarity of the grounds use with others!...

The Old Stables is a lovely barn conversion with stunning views.

It is comfortable and well equipped. But there are some issues that need sorting out. First and foremost is gaining entry on arrival. We were given a four digit code to access the key safe for entry to the property. There is no key safe, so we had to text the owners. (They have impaired hearing so voice calling is out of the question.) Fortunately they live close by and a lady came and let us in. Thankfully it wasn't raining while we were waiting. There are several windows with broken latches. A shower cubicle with a light that doesn't work. A heated towel rail that leaked water. The patio doors leading from the conservatory are very difficult to lock from the inside, we could only manage it from the outside then re enter the property through the kitchen patio door. These issues didn't spoil our stay but they need sorting out especially as this is a very expensive place to stay. Don't be put off from booking this property, the swimming pool is a real bonus and there are beautiful walks on your doorstep.

We had a lovely holiday 'covid style', isolating so sadly not accessing local attractions although we visited Tynstesfield N.

T property and drove through Clevedon which unfortunately had decided to ban all car parking along the front, why could they not have had at least alternate parking bays made available? As a result side streets were jam packed with cars - possibly for the residents and few visitors. Shame, because Clevedon looked delightful. The location of the Boundary Barn gives 180 views of beautiful countryside with every shade of green, yellow and bronze - and with sheep of course. Unfortunately without a Sat Nav finding it was tricky on the drive down to Dundry but we cracked it in the end - part of Somerset's charm is the winding roads which can take you in circles even with an old fashioned map to guide you.. We had beautiful weather which was a bonus, and walks to the local dairy each day for fresh milk from Guernsey cows was a joy. Our hosts Andrew and Erica made us most welcome on arrival and unobtrusive hosts, we knew if we had need them they were always there.

We spent a week with our son at Annex Chetnole over the Summer Bank Holiday period.

The perfect location for us being close to Bristol and well within striking distance of Wells, Bath and Weston Super Mare. There are plenty of more local attractions. We spent half a day at Chew Valley Lake and the nearby village of Chew Magna. The Dundry Arms and The Blue Bowl served excellent food and are both well worth a visit. The property met all our needs, was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen had all the consumables and equipment that we have at home with the exception of a washing machine. A nice touch was the Dolce Gusto coffee machine along with a selection of pods. The decked patio was a lovely place to relax with great views in all directions. The owner Richard was very friendly and always available on the rare occasions that we needed him. The welcome pack of fresh milk and eggs was very well received. We would definitely consider revisiting in future.

We have just returned from a relaxing and peaceful holiday at Boundary Barn.

It's set at the top of a valley, so the views were amazing. Being able to watch the funny spring lambs was lovely. The Barn had everything you need and it was very clean. We enjoyed walking from the barn across the numerous footpaths, byways and bridleways. The countryside was stunning. The wildflowers were beautiful. A visit to the Chew Valley and Blagdon lakes was a lovely day out, if you go to the fishing tackle shop at Woodford Lodge at Chew Valley lake sailing club, you can buy a day permit ticket for £6 each, this allows you to walk or drive around these beautiful lakes. We saw an Osprey, Barn Owl, Little Egrets, Herons, Sandpipers, and a new sighting for us, Garganey dabbling ducks. The grasses around the lake were filled with wildflowers including Early purple Orchids. There's also a restaurant at Woodford Lodge. Thank you for a lovely stay at Boundary Barn.
